If I'm being honest, I wouldn't wish working on Star Wars on my worst enemy. It has to be one of the most difficult IPs to work with. If you can get even 70% of what you do right, you're a god.

I mean, first you have the fans passion around it. So many have grown up with Star Wars and rather than grow out of it like other things we enjoyed as kids, it's been awesome enough to last through our lives. So it's a deeply personal thing for a lot of people as it ties to their own lives and doesn't just feel like disposable content they consume for fun.

Now you take that passion and then think of how many different types of Star Wars fans we have. The IP has been around for over 40 years with many different eras and types of media. You can have people who grew up solely on the prequels who have now been fans for 20 years. That's 20 years to love something that many older fans didn't even like on release and may not consider "real Star Wars". Something created by the guy who created the OT! It's such a weird scenario. Then you have tv shows, books, comics, games, and other media over 40 years in both legends and new canon. Fans pick and choose what they consume and what they like or don't like. More than any other IP I can think of, Star Wars fans have their own personal canon, picking and choosing what they feel is correct and ignoring what they think isn't correct.

Which is totally fine to a degree. Everyone is free to like or dislike whatever they want. But that also means people are going to have vastly different opinions on everything. And the more people dismiss certain Star Wars media, it gets tougher and less likely they'll be pleased with future projects that consider them canon. It creates like a thousand different fan types you need to please (which is impossible). Even among like-minded groups (like this forum) there are extremely varied opinions.

I know people like Jon and Filoni are also trying to play as nice as possible with all different media and eras and push for ways to enhance or improve those stories. This also means they will consider all existing content part of the playground, which is going to displease some fans before they even start.

That's not to say they just get a pass for effort. They are going to try new things and not everything is going to work, even with good intentions. There will be stuff that is weird, bland, or even bad. But man, it's really all-or-nothing with a lot of Star Wars fans, and that's a bummer. If this series doesn't live up to expectations, Jon is going to become a villain very quickly and people will start to dismiss his future projects before they even begin. I mean, I struggle not to overreact to things as much as anyone, but I'm actively trying to stay positive, look at the bigger picture and contextualize this stuff so I can try to be open to enjoying more stuff.
DE, I completely agree with you. We have very some very passionate people here and you certainly can't please everyone. I am watching this series to the end because I love Star Wars and enjoy every single movie and series to some degree. This thread also has some super optimistic people taking us along for the ride (especially CopperRevan and mottrex with NakedMoleRat for comic relief). The overall feeling after episode two was excitement with near giddiness. We have a ways to go and there will be some more great moments to discuss I'm sure. That being said, episode three was an absolute face plant for many and will be hard to get past.

I literally did a face plant myself today thanks to my Chocolate Lab...lol...thanks for your comment...I feel like i have a new family here. It would be hypocrital for me to tout Luke Skywalker as my favorite character and not have the hope that "there is still good left" in this series. Tem is keeping that hope alive for me right now, i genuinely believe him as a character and love his charisma and attitude he brings...he's a real winner in my book and Ming is fantastic too. They work great together. Instead of having "more cowbell", i'd prefer "More Garza" lol...hey, somebody get on that Tshirt slogan right now....What do you say Halliwax ?

For sure, I wasn’t really calling anyone here out, I was more highlighting an increasing sense that fans in general think of something as “correct“ or “incorrect”. It’s less “this isn’t my jam” and more “the creators are wrong”. Which I think is damaging to the people trying to make good content and the fans own enjoyment as creators are then dismissed if they try a new project. And it’s especially bad for Star Wars because I think there are so many versions of “correct” among the vastly different fans.

I’m guilty if it too and I’m trying to catch myself more.

Well stated and I didn't think you were calling anyone out- I was just highlighting the optimists in the group when the rest of us feel like Eeyore up there. There was a discussion on this forum recently about the different Star Wars trilogies and many members were vocal about their favorite to the exclusion of all others (usually the OT). However, one member, who belongs to the 501st, recounted his first hand experience at an event where the kids ran past the stormtroopers and Vader straight to see Rey and Ren. Each generation has a favorite and it's important to remember that, even if it isn't our thing. We all have emotional ties to certain things for different reasons.

yup! i am a volunteer big brother, my kids think star wars in the prequels.. heck my girlfriend is my age and she loves Rey and kylo. it doesn't bother me, star wars is for everyone. i just like the Original.. so shoot me lol

i will tell you i strongly believe less is more.. once disney bought it i knew things were going to change..

star wars use to be a once in awhile thing.. going to the theater to see star wars was a experience.. more like a celebration to me.. now with it everywhere i think less and less goes into creating a story.. and more and more goes into generating money..

all comes down to greed.. isn't greed part of the dark side? ;)

"less is more" is always something i lived by..

anyone have a predictions for next weeks episode? lets throw them out there, all seriousness

i think the mayor is going to now try and take over the territory, and the Pykes are coming out full force...

pretty sure i remember Pyke snipers from the clone wars.. would be cool to see them

pray Krrsantan comes back too..

Well, just watched Ep 3 and hmmmm.......not sure I'm liking it overall (WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD)......

...the 'teens' on the bright coloured speeders...blah.... the back story is interesting, but Boba wants to learn how to ride a Rancor...blah....I was not a fan of TM when he played Jango in the prequels, but he's actually saving the TV show so far for me.....I know it's SW TV and not SW Movies, but it just doesn't seem to have the 'spark' that Mandalorian seems to have,...maybe it's the character, maybe the scripts, but it seems to be on the edge of falling into a pit of lameness...

Anyway, early days, so maybe it will pick up...I realize it's super challenging to create new content in the SW universe and it will never please us all, so fingers crossed they don't ultimately F it up.

If you haven't seen Once Were Warriors with Temuera Morrison, then I suggest you take a look, it's a little brutal in parts, but worth a look.
