The Blue Box - The TARDIS has landed!

Re: The Blue Box

The white doors certainly make it feel like a proper New Series TARDIS. Looks fantastic as usual! Can't wait to see it all together again!

I know, I'm anxious to see it all together again soon. Shouldn't be much longer now though I will soon have to shift gears and start working on the lantern.

Re: The Blue Box

Alright, stupid question time, cos I'm a total noob: despite the differences in construction method and paint job between the Tennant and Smith boxes, from a distance, are they visually different? By that I mean, is there a height difference? Is one wider than the other? And etc etc. This is the first TARDIS build I've ever looked at, and my favorite colored box was definitely the Eccleston/Tennant box.

There are many differences.

Size, weathering, rail and stile joint type, lock, paint, lantern.

However, the very easiest way to tell is that a NST smith has white window frames, and a NST pre-smith (eccleston, tennant), has blue window frames.

Re: The Blue Box

Doors and exterior window frames done...
I still need to weather the interior side of the doors, but I'm happy the bulk of the work is finished.

Re: The Blue Box

I love how making something look old and dirty can be so beautiful. Seriously, outside distressed leather jackets I don't think I've ever seen anyone besides up prop collectors find things like this to be so cool. Fantastic work Frosty!

Re: The Blue Box

Mind blowing. It feels like you are building something that should be called "home" instead of "replica."

Re: The Blue Box

I hate to hop in at such late notice... but this is the BEST looking TARDIS I have ever seen. Beautiful.

Re: The Blue Box

The positive feedback is appreciated.
Tonught I have to finish up some detail painting.
The only things left are the lantern, door sign and window panes.

Re: The Blue Box

Lots to share.
First, I frosted all the window panes and did a test fit:

Lock hardware painted and distressed:

Frames, frames and more frames! All those individual pieces proved to be very tedious to paint. Good thing I have ADHD

Moving on...I was happy to get my door sign kit in the mail.
Starting off, the bare metal was cleaned and gently brushed with a fine scotch pad. It was then painted using a color called "Frosted Silver":

Next, the random looking scratch marks were put in with the help of my Dremmel tool and some photographic reference to do my best to recreate the surface damage:

Having never applied vinyl stickers before, this next part got me more than a little anxious, but I was delighted to get it right the first time:

Finally, I add the smudges to complete the look:

Still a few more things to do, but we are very close!

Re: The Blue Box

Getting closer to finishing our superior masterpiece.
Here, pieces are set up on specially designed rigs to make topcoating efficient and fast:

Here we have our windows, each individually frosted and airbrushed black in a feathered-edge "dirty" look:

We are in a race against time (no pun intended) to get her finished for Philly Comic-Con.
Topcoating all this weekend and we are aiming to get it assembled for some photos by Monday.
