The Batman

Finally saw The Batman yesterday, what a masterpiece! Totally worth the 3hr run time. Don't know how people are saying they were bored, this was Batman crime thriller at its best! And with a few courses of solid action to keep things interesting. My god, that car chase had me on the edge of my seat!!!!
And the way the Riddler attacked the DA was a love letter to the Annie Brackett kill in Halloween!
Oh and I love how The Riddler's theme was a haunting take on Ave Maria.

Well I just watched The Batman yesterday...I had only seen the first trailer so it was pretty much all fresh out the box for me. I thought it was very styialised in a good way certainly the first half with the action shots and bike chases through Gotham..it reminded me of Blade which also had a very cinematic 70s feel. I thought the choice of music was great and as much as I love a Hans Zimmerman it was nice to have a different style of soundtrack.
This certainly felt like a fresh take on the bat and apart from the odd scene were Robert Patterson took his shirt off ala Twilight.. I never questioned him as Bruce or Batman. The film noir style really worked for me and the dark atmosphere never overwhelmed the movie. I did think the multiple Riddler scenes got a bit mainstream in places but liked the concept.

Was the Riddler in his bolthole the whole time and sending out his minions to carry out his deeds ?
The cast was perfect the sets locations looked very real and not sets..
I came out thinking.. could I watch this movie again and thought Yes I could.
Imo I think its probably one of if not the best portrayal of All the characters in a movie..
Certainly better than the Nolan trilogy with old grufty playing the bat which never sat well with me..

I watched this tonight and absolutely loved it.

The performances were great. Casting was amazing. Pattinson was fantastic as both The Caped Crusader and Bruce Wayne.

The Batmobile was awesome. His gadgets were a bit more low key, but very believable.

I really liked the scene with
Riddler in Arkham saying Bruce Wayne repeatedly, then ultimately saying they didn’t get Bruce Wayne. The way Pattinson played that was phenomenal. I really thought we were being told that Riddler knew Bruce was Batman, and Pattinson sure had the facial expression and body language showing he felt the same way.

The Dark Knight is still probably my favorite Batman film...but man, for me, this one is nipping right at its heels.

...and it still makes a killing at the box office (y) (y) Just because someone (or many) saw the Noir Gothic side of Batman as it should've been all of those years. Going further than Tim Burton's concept and making this one as scary and horrific as possible. Hopefully; the next one will be even scarier in other ways...but keeping the same vein and design.

Saw this a couple times in the theater and yeah, it’s an incredible movie. My only knocks are that it doesn’t seem as easily re-watchable as previous Batman flicks (not that that necessarily has any bearing on a film’s quality) and then the amount of scenes that took place where the bat signal was located started to get a little repetitive for me as the movie went along.

I'm probably odd man out on this one i guess.
I loved the movie for most of the run time but the ending turned what would have been my all time favorite bat flick into a solid "Meh" that I doubt I'll ever watch again.

I enjoyed the psudo Long Halloween plot lone, so i was prepared for bats to be behind the curve most of the time...

...but he literally failed to stop a single thing the riddler did, and a massive chunk of Gotham's population was murdered because of it. I get that the crazies at the end all got their come-uppins and face punches. But they'd already killed most ground level citizens of the city. Just a real let down.

Saw it, bored off my ass. The casting was fine but the pacing was glacial. The idea of having him actually be a detective was fine but it went for so long with absolutely nothing at all happening. At all! Plus, all I could do when I was looking at Bruce Wayne was think about Hip Peter Parker from Spider-man 3. Geez, he looked incredibly stupid.

I was home yesterday so I thought I'd throw it on for a few minutes. Ended up sitting down and watching the whole thing again. Yeah, it's not perfect, but I can't say I agree with a lot of the criticism. I think this version of Batman works well within the context of this story.

Like I said in an earlier post, I had wished that they had brought in New Villians, watched it finally on HBO, way to Long, way to Dark, cast Ok, Batmobil Cool, but not the Best Batman by far, glad I didn’t waste the money to go and see it in the Theater….I’d give it 2 1/2 Stars….

Dark didn't bother me. Reminded me a bit of playing an Arkham game which is good. But, this is the first movie i can every remember thinking 'too long'. I'm usually a fan of long and support 'it takes as long as it takes to tell the story', but this seemed to move slow and have stuff it didn't need. Why did we need to blow the walls? Why couldn't it end with the capture? etc.

There are lots of movies that are 3 hours and feel like 2. This was 3 hours and felt like 4.

I just saw this yet again last night, still held up well but I agree it could potentially be cut down by a few minutes. I keep going back and forth between which is better, The Batman or The Dark Knight. Ledger was perfect as the Joker and really made the film amazing. That role is the best villain in any Batman film by far.

What's always bothered me about The Dark Knight and the other Nolan films was Bale. As Bruce Wayne he was great but the moment he spoke as Batman I could not stop laughing. It was super distracting and took me out of the story. Pattinson did really well in this as Batman and Bruce Wayne. So which is more important, a better hero or a better villain? Thats a tough call.

Kevin Conroy's voice will always be Batman though, no one has done it better.

Ledger’s performance...and to only a very slightly less degree, Aaron Eckhart’s...elevate The Dark Knight so much it’s impossible to measure.

I watched Batman Begins the other day, and it’s easy to forget how good that film is BECAUSE of how good the performances were in TDK.

I read an article on Polygon today where they ranked Begins as the best Batman film of all, and honestly I can’t really disagree with their ranking...it’s just that Joker and Harvey Dent are simply superb, so I rank TDK slightly higher.

One thing I think this film has going for it, for me at least, is that I didn’t expect it to be very good, so the fact that I did really enjoy it may elevate my opinion of it a bit higher than it should because I had such low expectations.

Either way, I’m definitely interested in seeing what’s next for Pattinson’s Bat.

***EDIT***

The Polygon article if anyone was interested.

I'll be the old man telling you kids to get off my lawn, why was every riddle instantly solved? There was no detective work, just solve a riddle that seems batman already had the answer to. Did I miss something that explains this? How he knows every answer or was it lazy writing? Alfred solved the code work to move that along then batman says do this and we have the answer.
Another huge issue I had was the entire city of Gotham is below sea level yet is shown as a having a port. So how was it flooded? How does a series of explosions raise the sea level to flood a city.

On a side note I really wished technology was left out. It really dates a film quickly. The way tech was presented was very 80's where a computer device can do magic.

Lastly batman should just leave Gotham. Its full of idiots all around, cops, criminals, citizens... Seems like the perfect place to build a wall and call it a prison...
