The Amazing Spider-Man Zentai Build

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum, and this is my very first thread here, so correct me if I'm doing anything wrong :D

Anyway, the TASM craze might be over, but my buddy gave me this Amazing Spider-Man Zentai suit for free. :) (Don't worry, it's the ZentaiZone one, not the stolen pattern one from zentai-zentai)

So I decided to try and mod it. But since this is one of my very first costume builds, I decided to go with Battle Damage, since if I do any mistakes (which most likely will happen) it won't be too visible. I'm aiming to make it look somewhat like in this pic, taken after the scene where Peter battles the Lizard down in the sewers.

I also modified the "Jansport Superbreaker" to look like the Slacker from the film. Just need to add the khaki straps :D

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man Zentai Build "Battle Damaged"

I think I placed this thread in the wrong section. Can someone please move it to the "Popular Franchises" section? :confused Thanks in advance :p

Thank you to VilleLeskinen for moving the thread. :)
Continuing: Here's a shot of my buddy wearing the unmodded suit before I got it.

As you can see, it's not very accurate in terms of printing design, but I'm not aiming for replica status. The goal is to make a cool suit that resembles the one from the film in a decent way.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man Zentai Build (Battle Damaged)

I made these custom Web Shooters quite a while before I received the suit. They are made entirely from scratch, mostly wood and various plastic pieces. No watch gears, but I'm satisfied. I'm also planning to add magnets to the bottoms so I can attach and detach them from the suit whenever I want to.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man Zentai Build (Battle Damaged)

Looking at the movie suit, I realize that the thing that makes it so cool looking, is how dark the base actually is. If we "removed" the honeycombs from the red sections it would not be very red anymore. You can see what I mean looking at Mclean Krieger's Phenomenal Suit:

This is where the zentai suit becomes a problem. It's very vibrant. So I've decided to darken the entire thing before puffpainting it. I have some great ideas to make it look cool :D

I'm also trying to decide what lenses I should use. Either make my own using stereo mesh, or use The Amazing Spider-Man Sunglasses.

Not very accurate, but great reflection and curve. However, they seem to be very rare nowadays.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man Zentai Build (Battle Damaged)

I used acrylic paint and a toothpick to do the little gaps inside of the back spider. I've also started to darken the red portions of the suit using a permanent marker and spray paint. Will update when I get some more done.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man Zentai Build (Battle Damaged)

I put an old pillow inside the suit and started shading the back of it. I did the red parts using a permanent marker and due to me not having an airbrush I used spray paint to do some of the back muscle definition.

I also ordered one of those honeycomb trivets (thanks to SpiderSparrow) and some tulip slick puffpaint to go over the honeycombs aswell.

Any feedback is appreciated :D

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man Zentai Build (Battle Damaged)

Update: My puffpaint arrived, and I've continued to use the permanent marker and spray paint to darken the suit and give it some muscle definition. I tried looking at many reference pictures but ended up shading most of the squares on the upper part of the torso, it might not be accurate, but with the puffpaint on there I think it's gonna look cool. Besides, the battle damaged suit is pretty dark in the film. As you can see I also marked out some claw scars and dirt.

I will also be painting the gloves blue, I'm looking for a paint that dries the same shade of blue as the lycra used for this suit.
Please tell me your opinions, I'd appreciate it :D

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man Zentai Build (Battle Damaged)

Looks AWESOME! Can't wait to see it finished.
Thank you! I'm excited aswell :)

Hmm. Not bad. Reminds me of how I started out. :p Good luck.
Thank you so much! That really means a ton coming from you Iracel. I've been following your threads for a long time now, and your suits suprise me everytime. I love what you did with the zentai suit, it was a huge inspiration for me.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man Zentai Build (Battle Damaged)

I nearly completed the shading on the mask.

I've never used puffpaint before, since it doesen't exist here. So that's the reason I had to order it online. Anyway, here's my very first test on a piece of paper. Not the best, but I freehanded the honeycombs, so they'll be alot better once I receive the honeycomb trivet.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man Zentai Build (Battle Damaged)

Thanks for all the positive comments, highly appreciated :D

My honeycomb trivet arrived.
IMG_1826.JPG
I was going to use SpiderSparrow's idea of using spray paint and then stamp it down. But my fear with this method was always managing to line up the pattern. So I tried it on some old t shirts, and well, I'm just happy I didn't try it on the suit. I find it really hard to line the pattern up.
At this stage I got lost, because I really didn't want to freehand the honeycombs. I'm pretty sure that would end up a disaster :lol
However, on my way to the store I figured something out, I remember in school when we would put a leaf under a regular piece of paper and use critons to rub over it. This transfers the raised details of the leaf. So I put the honeycomb trivet under my suit and used chalk critons to rub over it. It gave me exactly what I needed, and could be erased easily.

So, I started painting some honeycombs. Not perfect, but I'm getting the hang of it :rolleyes
