TFA Reys Star destroyer found part.

Does anyone else's screwdriver set smell like gasoline? I've ordered about 15 sets from various sources, 13 wrong, 2 right. The right ones stink! I also have 3 collets, one of them is huge!

yea mine had an odd smell, but I didn't really mind. Since I just used the plastic parts I just tossed all the bits in stuff in my tool box. Problem solved, I guess. Possibly a run down with isopropyl alcohol will help.

Right, I'm back on target. check out the size difference between the larger and smaller collets.

any numbers on the correct size collet? when eBay hunting what should we look for besides the 8 fins?

Looking at Pratt Burnerd site and going off what Rundown said on pg.2 I believe it's the bigger sizes. Rundown listed the Burnerd MC10 and above would work. However on the Pratt Burnerd site they're listed as "E". I wanna say the MCs were older models, not sure. Rundown broke it down for me earlier in the thread. But from what I can tell that's a 6 ridge collet on the top of the page.

So I'm hoping as well someone will chime in with help on the collet sizing

i must have missed that, i read this thread pretty good. thanks for sharing, yes i knew mc10 but didnt find anything on eBay searches. like you say though, there are other letters that do come up, i also see sizes 1-1/4 2-1/2 stuff like that. i do believe i have seen another set of letters in the listing and i remember seeing E, not a single E but 2 letter code and one of them being E.

it also seems to be pretty rare for 1 collet to be for sale, seems like they are sold in complete sets. heres hoping one day

I hear that, a bunch of lot sales. It's going to be one of those frequently looked up items on eBay until it'll randomly pops-up.
again, maybe a member will be kind enough to drop some knowledge on the size.

My correct collet has

BURNERD MULTISIZED COLLET Made in England MC12:1 1/4'' - 1 3/8'' world patent

I wonder if mine is an older model, as it has no metric numbers? Curious. Either way, it looks like it's the the MC models that are the right ones, my smaller collets are all marked MB

The actual mutlisize measurements help the most, that's what I'm seeing mostly on the eBay listing. So thank both you gentlemen. Now just need the right 8 ridge collet.

This is what I have come up with so far for the tip (my screwdriver set and collet are on their way, so I don’t know the exact relative measurements...):

- fork/ spade lug for loudspeakers
- spring loaded nipple driver or spanner bit
- fondue fork or corn cob holder (not “cornobi”)
- quartz crystal tuning fork
- tuning fork point level sensor
- turnbuckle wrench for RC models
- dull leather tool with 2 prongs
- specialized camera lens repair driver
- spoke wrench tips for motorcycles
- tecumseh oil fill plug/ cap or dipstick

Especially the last two look close:

Looking at the reference picture, I think I can see a ridge from the prongs going to the end of the fork shape.
That’s more of a wingnut characteristic.
Strangely I cannot make it out on the blu-ray or the special feature disc (where there is a short frame of daisy holding the bearing and looking towards the camera, before her very first scene in a movie).

If it’s a type of wingnut, the shape would suggest it is meant to go into a small space.

With that in mind, I found a picture of an arming wingnut from a British tail pistol No.28 & 30 section, which would be added to the end of a 250lb air-drop bomb from 1943:

This would at least mark the era in which these types of wingnuts were produced. Maybe a similar type can be found on an old lamp or such.

Wow, fantastic bit of detective work!!! I'm going to compare this part to the 3D model I created from screen caps......it's going to be interesting to see how close I got to the original part/prop :) Thank you so much for sharing!!

I will share any other finds. Somehow I was hoping for something more "convenient", but I like the idea that they used a piece of a military hardware. Of course the Obi saber had a grenade section... ;) The correct size is still to be determined. Any thoughts?
Looking forward to your 3D model!

Hi there,

fantastic!! many thanks!! Sadly it's often the case that obscure, long de-funked items are used in prop construction.....you should see the weird and wonderful array of.......some would call, 'Junk' in my workshop......you know what they say......one mans junk is another mans treasure :)
I've just received a delivery of 1930's to 1950's radio valves.......I was in hog heaven when they arrived:)

Umm, not sure of the correct size at the mo.......I'll look into it this evening.

I'll post a pic of my 3D printed Star Destroyer - Capacitor Bearing this evening......it's nowhere near finished, as I was working from 2 screen caps, and the pic from the visual dictionary.....not much to work on:)

As soon as my Burnerd collet & Tommy Walsh driver set arrives, I'm going to compare my 3D print with the 'Actual' parts used to see how close my model was......I've got a feeling they aren't far off. (I wonder if Tommy Walsh knows that an item of his merch was used in a Star Wars movie? :)

My intention is to create an accurate 3D model of the capacitor bearing asap...... I know this prop only appears briefly, but it's an iconic prop in my eyes.

All the very best
Dave
