TFA Graflex Research (That's a Graflex, right? Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

Here is my completed TFA saber! Thanks for the parts Roy! I realize some details aren't correct, but this is as good as I can do for now.

Circuit board and red button isn't right:

Folmer! The rivets likely won't be on the screen used prop. I'll replace those when the correct hardware is available. For the grips, I just cut and glued the heads on.

The metal tape is too shiny. I made the clamp lines with my fingernail. To get the grips placed right longitudinally, I stuck them down with the bottom tube fully sunk into the clamp. When pulled back out there is a nice even gap.

That's a very nice tape finish, at first glance I was going to ask who made that clamp.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

Crazy idea here, and this might be a bit too thick, but could the clamp wrap have come from the Hasbro fx saber? It's already got the engraved lines and would be just a little too big for the original clamp, so it's easy to trim to size. Not sure if the square cutouts match up though.

Hmm. I've looked at my few. You maybe on to something. We know they used FX sabers on screen so why not? Also, is there no red button on the TFA saber as someone mentioned who saw the film?

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

Well...they used sabers with LED blades on screen. As far as I know, there's no evidence that they used actual FX Sabers.

I swear I read somewhere that John Boyega said they used Hasbro lightsabers. I think it might have been on this thread actually, after we noticed the antenna thingie. I'll have to look.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

I recall some assumptions up thread that they used Hasbro lightsabers, but I don't think he ever said that.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

The word Hasbro was not mentioned by John Boyega. He did however state that his saber had a light up blade that also had a white flash occurring upon clash. That right there says that it is NOT a MR or Hasbro FX saber. That and the fact that the stock blade material (thin-walled polypropylene) (and the LED strings inside of said blades) in ANY of the licensed FX lightsabers cannot hold up to any amount of decent dueling, should also be a clear giveaway.

To play devils advocate, yes one could gut an FX saber and put a decent blade in it with decent electronics but all evidence shown and stated so far, points to the contrary.

Agree, seems more of a custom made saber with some parts very similar to what TCSS sells, or probably even sold by them.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

your right I just didn't remember correctly. Although theoretically it's possible. The clamp does look like a Hasbro one.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

If they were Hasbro, Hasbro would've told you so when the first round of Black Series sabers came out.

They definitely aren't Hasbro.

I'm thinking actual Graflex duel ready conversions with string LED's inside similar to a Makoto.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

Well i just took on the daunting task of making my TFA graflex saber....took the red button off my ESB saber and replaced it with an extra glass eye i had lying around. Lol

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

The amount of light reflecting on the actors and the surroundings (snow) to me showed that a lot more powerful LEDS were used than a normal Hasbro Force FX. These reflections add so much to the fighting sequences!

Oh man that sounds so cool. I'm such a sucker for small details like that. 24 more hours to go...

Disney is no marketing dummy, if a force fx or some Hasbro version would work they would do it..

Why? Disney doesn't own Hasbro... yet, lol.

Seriously though, I get your reasoning. Maybe you should have used the word "stock" before "force fx" and before "Hasbro". There's so much wrong with the Force FX sabers, not just in blade durability and electronics but with the hilts themselves in both accuracy and durability, that they are not good choices for a real Star Wars film.

trying not spoil it for the ones who has not watch TFA, but besides the Graflex, I have spotted at least two other pieces of Luke props from OT

Yeah, it is really great how they put these props into the movie, so we had the the fun and kind of childish feeling to notice something not everyone the cinema noticed.

Agreed. Definitely string LEDs!

You could say I'm pretty excited despite being on shift for the opening

defintiely

although for one of the item I have spotted, personally I think it was more of a big clue rather then just a fan service, probably will have to give everyone a few more days before we can discuss it (and not in this thread anyway I guess)
