TFA Graflex Research (That's a Graflex, right? Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

Nice thoughts Roy ... however these are photoshots especially done for movie promo memorabilia and merchandise with 'real props' add hand ... remember the fold-up Darth Vader from ANH?

Chaim

True, and I agree that if they'd use a replica for this shoot, it wouldn't be weathered.

But why is everybody talking about a stunt saber? Wouldn't they use a hero for a close-up shot like this?

I think we assume it's a stunt because it doesn't match the non-bladed one shown in the trailer with the Kobold clip and such.

That seems silly; that version clearly has the Kobold clip and the genuine look. This version, with the black bottom part, antenna, switch, NO D-ring and machined top is too obviously different. [emoji53] weird.

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

Remember this fold-up promo of Darth Vader :

That's not an MPP based lightsaber either . . . because it was taken at a photostudio in the U.S.A. not on set with the movie props at hand, something similar could be happening here, or they needed the glow effect on Finn's face as well, hence the use of the stunt saber not the non functioning hero prop :wacko

Yea, it's definitely a stunt version or a version after Rey or Finn modify it.

The cable portion is definitely attached to the plug. I would highlight it but I am not home I am using my phone at the moment.

I do like how the rivets on the grips look old and tarnished. Perfect for a 50 year old weapon that hasn't seen action in 30+ years.

it actually aggravates me, in the trailer with leia excepting it you can see them shiny new steel there... Now this stunts shows rusty hex button heads

Who knows what will change in editing and the actual film but hopefully it's not a continuity error.

I still regret not getting a ESB Luke lightsaber ages ago as now they're astronomical.

this is what i see, the red circle shows the cut out for the switch, and the over sized hole for the antenna to stick out

Re: That's a Graflex, right (Force Awakens teaser trailer #2)?

I'm just going to speculate that they take accelerometer/gyroscope data from the stunt saber so they can trigger the sounds during production, instead of during post (poor Ben). That would mean the knob is the aerial for it, with the square chunk being the power switch.
Have we compared the top of the G R A F L EX from the trailer with this? (If the trailer shot is clear enough). Could just be they updated because it somehow broke when falling down Bespin.

To me it looks more like there's a 'bite' taken out of that 'antenna' :

Ben Burt is still on board as sound engineer and perhaps even editor ... so I doubt they shoot the scene of Finn with lightsaber sound FX. We all know that J.J. is going back to using real film on set, he has taken space ship and other ideas from Ralph McQuarrie's early paintings . . . so why not order a spinning blade made this time by the prop guys, perhaps even with special 3M tape reflecting light back to the camera or to give a glow on Finn's face while shooting, and rejoice that it works this time around ... even if only as reference for the animation department to aid and alter the hue and glow effects slightly from what was done in previous films (remember those added 'lightning' fx on Kylo's main red blade in the teaser ?) . . . so that would explain the switch for turning the motor on, which is that big black protuberance sticking out under the G R A F L E X, and the main use of an antenna for an off-set remote control to adjust the speed of the spinning blade :wacko

Maybe there will be a scene in the movie where someone takes car and cleans this lightsaber before handling it over to Leia

Well ... to be really honest ... I'm not as excited anymore as I perhaps should be :confused

Am I the only one who sees the cable?

To me, especially in person, not from these images we have taken, it looks like an 'L' cable plug with a 'notched' cable end. Similar to what you would find on headphones.

Here's what I mean:

The only thing I have on hand right now at the moment with the notches, is the end to my USB data transfer cable going into my computer:

Nobody else sees this?

I insist that you guys head to your Toys R Us and look at the promo card board display piece in person. You can see the cable MUCH clearer!

It's part of the jacket Cuff, the reflection on the back mirror shows the back of the jacket and gives a better view of the cuff, like Halliwax said, it wouldn't make sense to not use batteries in this time and age and still rely on cables, but hey, who knows.
