Terminator: Genisys

Re: Terminator: Genesis

I had mentioned it elsewhere that a straight up Terminator remake would have been worse and totally unnecessary, as again it would never stack up to the tone of the original and would be pale in comparison.

And I dreaded the idea of this movie when it became apparent that this is a reboot instead of a sequel. But now that I have learned that this plays in the same universe as of the first movie, I am little more open to it.

Just reading that description about the older Terminator making an entrance during the scene from the first movie got me quite excited.

But it might of course lead to more problems with the timelines and could even nullify the events from the first two films. Need to wait and find out.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

I have sort of a love/hate relationship with the concept of 'protector' Terminators. It worked in part 2. But I like to think that the Resistance had some trouble capturing a whole freaking Terminator and reprogramming it. In the case of Terminator 2, I imagine there is a whole movie's worth of conflict, depicting the future Resistance capturing one and sending it back in time. It should be a big deal. With T3, Sarah Connor Chronicles and now (possibly) Terminator Genesis, it seems as though they can just capture a Terminator real quick and send it back every time they need to.

On that note, T3 would have been a lot better (and served more purpose) if Arnold had been bad, and John Connor had to defend himself. I

Re: Terminator: Genesis

I agree, i could see it happening once, but eleventeen billion times is ridiculous. Twice was once too many.

I would recommend you reading both the original script for T2 and also the novelization. Which expands the cut(due to cost) intro sequence. Where you would have seen the resistance capturing the time displacement complex, John sending Kyle back and then saying to his fellow soldiers he has to do one more thing before they blow it up: send Uncle Bob back. Inside the complex there are rows upon row of different looking Terminators, one model 101 is already missing, the one Skynet sent back to 1984. I would have loved to have seen this extended future war intro :love

Re: Terminator: Genesis

I don't recall any scenes in any of the films involving Sarah and Kyle wearing surgical scrubs.

Honestly, there's only two Terminator stories I'd like to see as films. Both were from Dark Horse Comics. The first is Terminator: One Shot, which involves another woman who had the unfortunate luck of being named Sarah Connor, who is targeted by a T-800 Terminator with a female exterior (nicknamed 'The Amazon' by Terminator fans). The other, which I feel would be even better, RoboCop vs. The Terminator, which was written by Frank Miller (who written the two RoboCop films that ended up being loosely based on his scripts). But the odds of them being done are nonexistant.

I still say there is only one serious option for a new actor in the T-800 role:

The Hoff, from 1984, playing his Knight Rider evil-twin:

Re: Terminator: Genesis

I cant say what ive seen and heard but my faith in this film has grown 10000000000 fold over the past week. Unless some bumbling fool has control over the final edit (such as what happened to TS), its going to be difficult to screw this one up unless of course all the time travel starts to mess with the editor.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

Nice if true :D
Not so nice if it's BS like McG going around saying "Cameron really likes my film" :facepalm

I hope they remember to not show sunlight in the future war sequence. The idiots behind Salvation apparently forgot all about Judgment Day and there being a nuclear winter after.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

I don't know why a cyborg would have a cigar, but ok. :lol
I think the approach looks good overall. I would have been fine if they went with prosthetics to make him look younger though. It wouldn't matter if it turned out a bit fake or limited his face, because cyborg.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

Ironically, I'm sure there will still be a ton of little CGI touch-ups on Arnold in the final cut. It's standard procedure for big actors these days no matter what age they are playing.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

You don't have much imagination, do you? Perhaps a Terminator would smoke in order to blend in?
Either way it doesn't matter since they are obviously not shooting at that very moment.

I'd just woken up, so my imagination and vision hadn't kicked in yet! :lol
I'd be ok with him having a cigar anyway. He didn't really need biker clothes, sunglasses and a motorbike in T2 either, but it looked cool, so what the hey! I can't wait to see this movie, and see how they work in the earlier timeline, and Arnie.

Technically, he needed clothes, much like how the previous T-800 did in the first one, it was just a matter of what was available with opportunity (T1, the punks. T2, the bikes). Kinda defeats trying to blend in if you're walking around naked. :lol

Cyborgs wouldn't need clothes either really, not like they would get cold :p

He did raise a few eye brows walking in naked :lol

I meant in regards to just happening to look like a total badass, as opposed to coming across something a bit more mundane, like wearing slacks and a sweater and stealing a Ford Pinto. I certainly didn't mean to suggest I wanted to see Arnie naked for 2 hours. :lol

Wash day tomorrow. Nothing clean. :p :lol

LOL! That's what I was saying. The fact that he looked pretty bad-ass in both films was purely a coincidence of where he was. Hell, despite the fact I disliked T3, it pretty much backed up that detail (even as going as far with the sunglass bit).

Re: Terminator: Genesis

there is a reason for an aged T800 and thats a major plot point, T800, not T850 or Uncle Bob, T800. From the way the script reads its a four hour film. They got some other guy to stand in as the younger T800 body and its NOT Roland. I dont want to slam the guy but they should have reached out again to Roland.

Re: Terminator: Genesis

Wasn't Roland somewhat disillusioned with the experience last time around? I seem to remember him having a David Prowse-like moment upon realizing that his face was replaced in the final product and he was upset about it.
