Terminator: Genisys

re: Terminator 5 (Reboot)

Why not, they did it for Tron 2 with Jeff Bridges and it worked seamlessly

It may have worked seamlessly, but it sucked. As his younger version it looked off, fake. I couldn't suspend my reality enough to accept it as "real". What they did with Arnold in TS was as bad. I couldn't make myself go see Avatar, hell, you couldn't pay me to watch it. No interest at all, so I can't compare the special effects from that to the two mentioned above.

re: Terminator 5 (Reboot)

You have to ask yourself the Question..... WHY !!! Why dont they just let the franchise die.

Oh and don't forget there is talk of Arnie coming back for another go at the Predator :rolleyes

Arnold needs money. The divorce with Skeletor was costly, then there is the illegitimate offspring's support, etc...

He-man finally got beaten down by skeletor! LOL!!!

I wouldn't mind seeing him as an older military intelligence person in a new predator. They bring in a guy with experience to try and help track and capture it.

IDK about terminator. Why would they make the terminators look different ages? PT2 shoulda been it IMHO. I didn't HATE the other movies... they just weren't needed and his age being so evident doesn't help with the suspension of disbelief needed to accept Arny as a robot.

re: Terminator 5 (Reboot)

It's about the Connors, man.

The studio thinks that without Arnie it will fail. Yeah, that cgi cameo in T4 made the movie.

On the other hand, his age could be explained by saying Terminator flesh aged rapidly, just like it healed rapidly.

re: Terminator 5 (Reboot)

I also read somewhere, again, I don't have a link, that T3 was really a rejected T2 concept. Cameron felt that it was too cliche to have a female come back and be the baddy.

I remember that too in the mid 80s. I think there was a teaser in a magazine like Fangora or Starlog, with a picture of a woman with a half-machine face (much like the concept art of T1 Arnold). I "think" it may have also coined the term "Terminatrix."

As for Arnold being too old... well what is to say they can't have "older" looking models of Terminators? It is supposed to be an "infiltration unit" and blend in after all.

Of course there does have to be a line drawn or you get into comedic territory- picture a frail grandpa (with a big white beard) being let into a Resistance bunker only to pull out a .50 cal and start blasting away.

I may have read this, or dreamed it, but somewhere I remember the idea floated around of having a baby, or possibly a young child be a Terminator. It acts helpless, get's brought back to the "safe" compound and then blows itself up. Kind of an Improvised Explosive Terminator (IET). I could see Sky Net doing that, or possibly using an old man or woman.

"In my opinion the olny one who can truely do it right would be Cameron, "

yeah right. the guy who obliterated his own story rules just so he could make some money off another film and do some cool effects.

What are you talking about?

re: Terminator 5 (Reboot)

I'd love to see another terminator with Arnie, i just hope they don't cg it, the tron stuff with bridges was just awful, looked totatly fake, cg has come a long way, but making humans seems to be stuck in the mummy returns scorpion king era

Totally agree with you. Though T2 is a very nice action flick it does undermine lots of things established in the first one + playing on "the cool" terminator, though done for kicks, totally cheapens the danger and menace of these machines with their unstoppable singular purposes - beyond their mission they are nothing. The fact that Arnold is a kid's plaything in T2, though showing some depth to that relationship when John actually realizes what he has power over in the parking lot scene... it still... kills the drama of the unstoppable machine and anyone sent back to protect the Connors barely having a chance in hell to defeat it. In all the sequels they never went back to that dynamic, but kept the pet-terminator concept.

Cameron seems to be done with that world, though I still think he could be the one to turn it back from its current utter disaster. Though... perhaps better to just let it rest in peace instead of getting it cemented that it is not possible to save it.

re: Terminator 5 (Reboot)

er, have you actually watched T1 and T2?!

Whether or not you realize it, you are coming off like a butt hole. So, even with the benefit of the doubt, I'm still going to put you on my ignore list. Life's too short.

re: Terminator 5 (Reboot)

Well... **** happens... and life has consequences. It's how we deal with those that makes us great or the other option.
