Decided to move this build to its own thread. It started out with the general consensus that the base gun was a Browning M2 heavy machine gun, but upon further scrutiny of the reference material of the weapon used in the movie it seems more likely that it was a custom creation - more in line with older WW1 guns such as the Vickers and Maxim.

Then altered the shape to this:
Trying to model the piece based on wonderful reference provided by The Terminator, it was possible to determine what I needed to change and what I could improve. Have been working extensively on the forward facing spade grips and the crank on the side. Got a lot further with the crank rod connecting to the handle, but I had to step back and redo that whole thing as it had a lot of curves and shapes I wasn't pleased with - wasn't achieving the look I was seeing in the reference - so started over. Need to add the indentation on the rod as well similar to the M2 crank - but different.
