Tenel Ka Djo, Star Wars EU (Pic intensive. And long.)

Carenix-- I can tell from your avatar you're a fan! ^_^ I'd love to see your Queen Mother, please post pics!

I think I'm gonna have a really good time at CV, it's definitely the place to wear it. If you're going to Dragoncon though, unless the costume totally falls apart during CV, you'll get to see it.

Also....I hate you for that saber HAHA. I must say I am uber jealous. I actually asked them how much an EL tenel ka was and they said they couldn't make it.
*pout* PLEASE do post pics!
EDIT: Also, can YOU solve the mystery of "wtf is that stick??" haha

Since the official images are from the waist up, I took some inspiration from a custom figure I bought off ebay:

And of course this has to be the first year since 2005 that I'm not going to Dragon*Con. :cry Ah well. :cry

I took a closer look at the Nocturne Armory saber and what I'm figuring is that its too much of a pain to work in the light and the soundboard to offer for sale on a regular basis. I noticed that the holes for the screws to put the lightsaber back together are very easy to damage if not lined up perfectly (and I'm not cranking a whole lot of pressure with the hex key) so it might be a case of they could do it, but the work is such a pain in the butt that they don't want to do it.

Also to show my uber-geekiness, the lightsaber on the Tempest cover is different from the lightsaber in The Essential Guide to the Force (which is what the Nocturne Armory saber is based off). I forget who made the Tempest saber I have since it was an ebay deal when the fifth book of the Legacy of the Force series was coming out so EU stuff was a hot seller/popular.

For the stick question, I believe it is a "traditional Dathomiri spear." Kirana Ti was a Dathomir Jedi character introduced before Tenel Ka, and Kirana has also been depicted carrying around the stick. I think that's why Tenel Ka is shown to have one, as a nod to continuity (i.e. Kirana Ti wears her armor instead of Jedi robes, and Tenel Ka continued the traditon, so she should have a stick too).

Kirana Ti - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki

That's my logic on the subject. :)

Wooohoooo!:love

Finally someone did it! It looks terrific, amazing and enchanted! Definately the costume I want my girlfriend to wear when I have one!

I always like it when people do something not much known and make it as cool as this! you sure got the feeling for what to do with EU costumes that look to nineties.....

After this something from the Dark Empire series??:)

Just got home from Celebration V. I'll respond to some of the posts later but I just wanted to announce, I entered into the costume contest on Sunday in the Beginner category (to which I was given very strange looks haha, it was amusing and ego-boosting that they were confused why I was entering into beginner and I reassured them that aside from a resident evil Alice dress I didn't even bother hemming 3 years ago, this was the first time I had ever made a costume myself). I apparently was a close second to Thomas Spanos who won best in show for his Darth Bane. Which was an obvious call, I'd have placed him there myself, he more than deserved it. But even being remotely compared to him was an incredible thrill, since his work was major inspiration behind how far I went on this costume and I have looked up to him for over 4 years now. It would be amazing to someday be anywhere near as good as he is at what he does. Major congrats to Thomas! ^_^

But I did win best in my category though! Best Beginner! And what was really cool was that Thomas and I both had very paleo/biology influenced costumes, and the winner of best in show on Thursday was the Dathomiran Nightsister, so I had some kindred costumes in both contests! :) (Also I heard that the new season of Clone Wars will feature Nightsisters. I might just start watching for that.)

Hey SB,
This costume turned out great!! I saw it first hand at CV. I wish I had my camera but no luck. You are truly talented? What do you have plans for next?

I keep foaming at the mouth over all the detail work on this costume. You are crazy girl! And I love you for it XD

Forever the best Tenel Ka outfit ever made, and the best Tenel Ka. Period. You just fit the features so well!!!

You better be bringing that to D*C...in case you were not thinking of bringing it, haha. We must have photos together...but mostly, I just really am dying to see it in person!!!!!!!

I have no idea who that character is, or what she's from, but that is some great work!

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Cayman_shen-- lol oh? I have no idea what I even have for music there anymore haha.

Darth Mule-- We will indeed! And I'll be wearing this one Friday. :)

Carenix--What sucks though is that I would have been able to install my own EL stuff if they'd just agreed to sink a tube into the resin and even *that* they didn't want to do. That's why I was so bummed, cause clearly it was possible. :-/ And I actually think there's a thread on here with the Tempest saber in it. I prefer the essential guide's sleeker design which is why I held out for Nocturne's. And I KNOW I've seen your Queen Mother before online, someday all the Tenel Ka's will have to get photos together haha. (All like, what, 4 of us? XD)

Daska-- I've contemplated it but I never really liked the costume designs. I'm considering a Nightsister myself, along with a McQuarrie concept Starkiller hero, and perhaps Guri, at the moment.

Saber_girl--Ahh then you haven't seen Thomas "The Clone Emperor"'s work. He's incredible with the EU stuff, it's sort of mindblowing.

Sakara--indeed. I was completely blown away by Mary's costume, and I'm ridiculously sad that I didn't get a "Jedi Witch vs. Sith Witch" faceoff photo set.

ScruffyRebel--you know it babe! Are you good with Friday? I think that's when I want to wear her, and I'm sure we can get some really epic photos.

Mirax--I'm glad too! It was great running into you! :)

Bravo on creating this outstanding costume. Probably one of the best I've seen, with a great attention to detail. I love the professional model shots, and the rancor tooth lightsaber is a really impressive prop as well. I'd love to see you create a Jaina Solo costume too.

I actually did a Jaina costume about 3 years back, and I even threw it on when I couldn't wear the boots anymore at CV and was "jedi academy Tenel Ka" haha. I'll have to see if I can dig up my old Jaina pictures...

This is from Celebration IV, so they're about 3 years old.

The colors were never accurate (the seamstress I went to mixed up the fabrics >.<) so I left some Tenel Ka pieces on and went with my incorrectly colored Jaina, and called it "Yavin Academy Tenel Ka". No one there got it lol but it made for some great pictures with my friend Cavalyn who was dressed as Jaina.
