Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

I just got a curling bar today with some new weights. On some exercises its better for my wrists i noticed. Most exercises i cant to with it tho.
I was just curious like chest press. With both u have other way to keep the balance. What why i wondered which is better :D

For bench press (what I'm assuming you're calling chest press) I would not recommend using the curling bar. That exercise with a straight bar puts a fair bit of stress on your shoulders. I don't know what a curling bar would do. I supposed you could start out super light, do a ton of reps, and really focus on what areas are stressed first and try to see if you think it will cause injuries later. But, a lot of people have great results with dumbbell bench press and many respected guys prefer it to the barbell bench press.

Everyone is doing such a great job, you are all inspirational. I have been trying to trim down for a while to be able to look "OK" in a Spiderman costume. I will never look as great as some of you do in there costumes, but I am getting there. I have lost 14lbs so far since last October and would like to shed another 10lbs if I can. Any how decided to try my hand at the costume. So this is a work in progress that's me and the costume :)

Right. If you want to look defined and like your muscles are 'popping through the suit' you either need countour shading around the muscle groups (as used in the films Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, and The Amazing Spider-Man) or you need to have a slightly transparent fabric with a reflective muscle layer underneath (As seen in Man of Steel).

However, you'll still look great in a suit without contour shading, you just wouldn't look like the muscle groups are defined and popping. The suit for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2" has very little contour shading at all, and it still looks pretty badass, because of the shape of the actor (and slight muscle suit layer) underneath, and the way the lines are laid out on the suit.

**What I'm trying to get across is that your goal of looking like your muscles are 'popping' and defined is not so much a fitness goal as it is a costume design goal, especially considering your current level of physical fitness.
**

Cheers.
hey ,hi , can you tell me your chest size , you look awesome in a spidey suit so i want to get shape like your body, thanks

Opinion question: what do think is better/more effective to use. 2 dumbbells or 1 curling bar?

"Single limb training (single leg squats, single side dumbbell chest press, single side cable low row to name a few) is effective at improving strength unilaterally but not bilaterally, meaning it needs to be done in addition to other bilateral training to trigger an anabolic response. A recent study compared GH response in unilateral and bilateral exercises at 80 percent of the 1RM. GH increased for both groups but was more elevated in the bilateral training group. Insulin, another anabolic hormone, increased equally for both groups." This is just one of the articles Charles Poliquin has written in regards to unilateral and bilateral movements. here is a link to the full article The Growth Hormone Response: Get Anabolic Pt2 - Poliquin Group I know this doesn't answer the exact question you asked, but hopefully it will provide some new insight that will help your training.

Finally found a thread I can properly contribute on! I take fitness and weight-lifting reasonably seriously and have trained a number of friends and family members so can offer some advice for people which has worked for me :)

I'm 17 at 118 lbs on a good day. I lift 30 lbs dumbells for around 30 minutes every other day and do push ups and sit ups/crunches. My abs are pretty defined but it's probably because I'm skinny. Anyone want to give me some advice? I would appreciate it. :)

In my opinion, I would start off with basic exercises, if you can do pushups, pull ups, sit ups then its a good base to go with!
The main compound moves for gaining some muscle are considered to be:
Bench Press
Squats
Deadlifts

If you can do these three basic movement (there are plenty of tutorial videos on YouTube) I promise you'll start to see the gains come.
I started out doing a lot of bicep curls and stuff to try get bigger arms - problem is, these are called 'isolation' movements which only target one specific muscle and don't actually gain much size - but pair these with compound movements (such as Bench Press and Pull-Ups) you'll start to notice changes on yourself in as soon as 6 weeks :)

Not to mention diet, if you're trying to bulk up, eat like crazy. I presume you have a high metabolism like me, increasing your calories will be hard to begin with, but once you start to eat more I promise you'll see the difference in the mirror putting on some solid muscle!

Hope that wasn't too confusing and more detailed than you'd have liked...just wanted to contribute to the forum for the first time after taking so much advice off people!

Also for anybody looking to lose a few lbs, I'd really recommend Deadlifting and Squatting, these can be done with dumbbells or a bar and are a simple compound movement which will great for building muscle strength which will make you look better in the costume :)

For me the workout got much bettet since i vary the weights.
Example: chest press with dumbbells. 3 set with 55lbs (25kg) each bell. And then 3 sets with 45lbs (20kg).

I get great results with that :)

Yeah variety is also, keeps your body guessing and makes it less boring doing the same thing over and over :)

Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

First week on the diet and pretty pleased with my results. Had one day where I had my allocated calories (I'm trying to keep below them by 500 to loose fat and slim down), due to going out for a meal and having a beer.
Gone from 170lbs to 163. Probably helped that im not just lowering my calories but changing what I eat. I went out last night and only drank water. First 2 was hard. But it got easier and im pleased I did it. Really wish I took measurements at the start. Going to do it later today.

Hi folks. I'm a fellow Spidey. Got a new suit being made at the moment. I do charity work and kids parties etc. I do the Shaun T 'Insanity' workouts. They always seem to do the trick to get me back in shape. Along with protein shakes and a healthy diet. The pic is my progress after just 3 weeks. Don't be under any illusion its very hard work to get to where i am just now. Unfortunatley unlike Spiderman you dont just wake up one morning and be ripped....as good as that would be though! :)

The only thing I have a problem with those 'Insanity' and 'T25' workouts is that they're all cardio. Too much isn't good for the body. You'll always go back up in weight. It's not a permanent fix. Get on a good strength building program and push some heavy weights around. Get rid of the yo-yo effect.

I used to do an hour of weight pushing after the workout and fight training.
Surprisingly i had alot of energy after those hours :D
Nowadays i dont have the time and didnt find a good fighting school where i live now.

Hi Aron,
I was slim before the workouts. I actually put on weight after i'm finished the programme. Last time i completed the 60 day programms i had put on over half a stonne. But that half a stonne was just all lean muscle though. I enjoy it because i just eat anything and everything for 60 days and at the end look and feel the fittest and leanest i've ever have. Not to mentiom looking fab in my Spidey Suit. The mums seems to enjoy looking anyway :)

Ok. Im 17 years old, 6 ft tall. 153 lbs and have 20% body fat. I know. Pretty bad.
Ive been very skinny kid my whole life and have a very crafty metabolism. I have recently noticed that i've developed a gut. Im looking for the Andrew garfield defined physique but i'm not so sure if I should focus on losing belly fat first or gaining more muscle. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me out. Really appreciate this community.

U cant just lose belly fat. U lose it everywhere.
I would gain muscles n do workouts. That will lead to lose fat too.
The workout morrice is doing looks good for that :)
U dont need to push weights for a garfield shape.
