Tariq Industries / United Cutlery / ... Swords...

I bought Serednab's "Grail Knight Sword" from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" here on the RPF. The sword seems to be made (was shipped from) Tariq Industries (in Pakistan).

When I visit this companies site, I see they sell other movie swords too. Until now, I mainly knew United Cutlery as manufacturer of movie swords. So I started this thread to ask you about your experience with movie sword makers (not limited to United Cutlery or Tariq Industries).

I'll start with my experience (Grail Knight Sword) about Tariq Industries: the sword looks and feels good. It's not completely screen accurate, but that might be because of the design Serednab sent to that company (don't know how they work together exactly).

For the quality: as I said, the sword feels nice. The blade is not 100% scratch free. The details in the handle are not very crisp but good enough. So all in all, not a bad sword, not a great sword either. I'd give it a 7 / 10.

There also was a scabberd included too, but that looks and feels a bit cheap.

Price of the sword (including shipping) was 110 € (about $ 160).

Pictures of the sword can be seen in the Junkyard thread of Serednab.

Bump this thread... Nobody with an opinion about this? I can't imagine that there are no opinions about United Cutlery fro instance. Other sword-producing companies can be mentioned too if you want. Just let us hear your experiences.

There are loads of companies that manufacture all kinds of swords, daggers, helmets and the likes in Indian and Pakistan.

Alot of them are on eBay too.

Also, for example, the Gladiator helmet I have originates from Pakistan, but surprisingly, was shipped from the UK.

Plenty of these companies have 'bases' in the UK. This is generally because an Indian or Pakistani living in the UK has plenty of contacts in his/her home country, and they set up a transit 'shop' in the UK.

Some bring their skills over, and set up manufacturing in the UK.

There are also quite a few who are US based.

From what I have seen in person, and also from extensive browsing on the internet, their products fall, broadly speaking, under the 'acceptable' level.

Do not expect to be blown away by the quality.

It's not bad, but you can't compare it to, say, UC. Chalk and cheese.

They focus on quantity.

These companies sell cheap, so there you have it. You can't really complain.

The cheap price, however, is generally accompanied by STEEP shipping costs due to the geography.

All in all I'd say OK stuff, but not for the nitty-picky people.

Personally, I like nice and cheap within accepatable parameters :)
