T2 Donut head build thread

Though i would start this to show progress on the donut head i got from Ryan and for others who bought the bust to exchange info.

Just a headsup, Fruit of the Loom size Medium T-shirt fits this guy good. I also ordered a Flying Cross LAPD Deluxe Tropical uniform shirt. I think they are the correct ones with the X sewn into the shoulder pieces and it also has the 3 section backs. I ordered a size 15 x 32 and when i get it will report about it's fit. Lastly you'll want to find 2 pairs of LAPD Waterbury buttons for the shoulders and pockets. Guy i got mine from on Ebay is out of them. Now i need the badge and 'Austin" name tag.

Thats a good question. I will probably buy something else to experiment on first. I may look into getting the donut half of the head chromed. Not sure if that is feasible. As for paint i will see if i can teach myself to do realistic skintones on something else. If so then yes i will do it myself. I really have no problem leaving it as is too. Its cool as it is in the raw.

I got the shirt on Ebay. The sellers name is MARRSINC. I bought a 15 x 32 shirt. It may be a little small but hard to tell. Patrick is 6 ft and this bust has a 15ish neck. About my size. I put one of my shirts on the bust and a 15 1/2 shirt looked like it had a hair too much collar. Your probably better off waiting until i get my shirt in and i can verify the size so everyone isn't waisting money on the wrong size. It should be here this coming week.

Thanks for your write up on your Ash bust. I am going to use it as my guide to try my hand at painting this bust. Going to experiment on a couple lifecasts first though, just incase i suck at it.

So wheres the best place for wigs? Also is tech-optics the place to go for eyes? Any ideas or thoughts on size? I wonder if this thread is in the right forum. Is it a prop or should this be in the Sculpture Makeup forum?

I reckon Sculpture and Makeup would be a more suitable forum for this. I can't wait to get mine delivered. Looking awesome.

I got my LAPD badge from this guy;
I REMOVED THE CONTACT as it turns out that this is the same seller that Too Much Garlic commissioned to make his T1000 run without giving him permission to make more outside of his own run.

That last photo is my progress so far. i will only have the bust go down just to the bottom of the chest pockets. Any place you can get really accurate name tags?

Sorry mate, I never realized it was the one that you commissioned. I just sent a message to heaps of Ebayers and sites selling LAPD badges and he was one of the few who were willing to do a T1000 custom and for a decent price as well. I didn't mean to piggy back off your badge mold. But it does appear that he is selling them now.

As far as eyes, yes Tech Optics would be my first call. Though this will be a tough one as only one eye is needed - the other will have to be painted on the bust by hand as it needs to be elongated and warped to blend into the chrome splash.

Gregory wig is probably going to be the best. Not sure on colour yet. Haven't researched that far.

And that is poor news about the badge. :thumbsdown

Anyway, regarding this thread. Had a look at that shirt. Though it seems to be pretty close to a regular LAPD shirt it has the difference from the T-1000 shirt that it has the square fold on the front of the chest pockets, where it should be flat across. I took a long time searching for the right kind of shirt and I gotta admit that they are really hard to find. From what I've found is that when the shirt doesn't have the folds, then they miss something else - it seems only movie production police shirts have the actual look. However, if most of the shirt will be tucked under the bust, then it won't really matter anyway, whether it has those folds or are more accurate.

Can't wait to see this painted up.

Thanks. I was on Techs site yesterday trying to do some comparisons. Although his eyes are listed as blue they are more of a gray. I think the only ones they have in grey are their "new human eyes" which is of coarse the most expensive. I am going to get a set and maybe sell the other to someone else who got one of these. I guess i'll have to cut a hole in the top of the head to get it in.

For anyone else doing this thing. The cover of Cinefex #47 has a great shot of the animatronic head and i'll probably use that alot for ref.

Wig is going to be next but that is way out of my knowledge zone so i have to do some research on it as i know nothing about them.

Here is a comp i made using random internet pics. The eyes below are from left to right. Light blue, grey, dark blue. Grey looks the closest to me but none are 100% perfect and i am not sure that is possibe without really good pics and someone to make them custom. The 3mm pupil looks OK too.

I see what you mean. Thats OK. I am not going to go crazy hunting the exact shirt. There is someone on Ebay selling a really nice 1:1 and he says the original shirts are no longer made. Take it with a grain of salt but he is probably right.

Found a place that i think made the name badges. I need to contact them still and see what they can do for this.

Still not sure what to do for the LAPD badge. The laws are so screwed up. Its a fed offense to have them but you can use the defense of it being for a movie replica or museum piece or if it is easy to tell it's fake. So i guess you go to jail until they determine it is for movie or museum replica. I am going to try and get a nice metal one, then get some bullet holes cast in metal then drill a hole in the badge to make it unpassable as a real one and attach the metal bullet splat to the badge with the hole. Should be pretty cool looking and keep the popo happy. I wish i had gotten in on that run of yours TMG but i am a bit skittish about getting them sent to me.

If you go with Tech Optic (I will be) you want to email them and get them to make you a custom pair. They custom paint eyes to match any pic you send (I think a custom iris colour is $20 extra). You also will want their 28mm eye with 11.3mm iris. It's not on their site, but they do it if you ask. It's the most accurate (all the ones on their site have irises that are too large) and I've used those specs for my Ash bust and my Stage 4 T2 Arnie bust.

Not sure if they'll do customs as singles, but expect they would. Otherwise it might be an idea to get a custom pair made and split them and the cost.

48.00 per pair (78.00 per pair with vessels). That's if you go with one of the colours from their website. It's $20 more (I think) if you want a custom iris colour.

The ones i posted are $119 a pair. I just noticed they also some without vessels from the same line in a blue grey for $48. Looks like i will need to call and email them pics and see what they say about some custom jobbers.

Yes, $48 is the price without blood vessels/veins in the eyes. These are 2/3 spheres.

Not looking for anyone to split the cost of the eyes yet (for one eye each). My bust hasn't arrived yet, so won't be researching the eyes properly until then. At that point I'll contact Tech Optics and see if you'll do just one eye - if someone hasn't done it already by then.
