T1 and T2 Endoskeleton Research Thread

Always good to check on the Tomenosuke Shoten shop Endoskeleton as I noticed I had one of the forward facing grooves wrong. The detail is hidden under the T2 knee cap, so I just assumed both grooves went straight across, but the upper one bent upwards just past the outside edges of the vertical piece, so I altered it to be accurate.

Question: are anyone interested in the basic knee models without the grooving added? If so, then I can just upload those now and then people can carve them into their prints or something themselves.

Redid all the vertical grooves to make them as slim as the horizontal ones. Taking a break. Will redo the plug area later. Not liking how it looks. I took out the curve, but maybe I should add it back in or have it sit a bit deeper in the hole.

Yeah. I'm having serious flashbacks back to the time when I started using the David Laserscanner... man... if I had the technical skill back then and the foresight, I could still have been using it and getting scans in a quality these new cheap scanners has only recently been able to compare to. It wasn't perfect... but it could do more than I was able to get out of it. But I remember spending HOURS scanning Vader parts. One thing these new scanners do that the David couldn't is go 360° and basically capture the whole thing in one go, so scanning time has been reduced by an extreme amount and because the cameras are closer together with the lightsource, undercuts aren't as big of a problem as it was for the David scanner.

Damn... I'm rambling. I'm just too gosh darn excited right now. Can't wait to scan the hell out of cool things. :)

You can also scan objects that are transparent/have a mirror finish using a spray. Just search for "scanning spray".

Yup. Heard about those. There are short lasting versions and long lasting versions that evaporate on their own and versions you have to wipe off yourself after use. Also heard in some scanning videos that if you use it on soft things, such as cloth and foam, you halve (or more) the lasting time before it evaporates. So all that has to be taken into account.

And with this scanner you do not need speckle paint to get the scanner to capture it. You need a smooth surface in one uniform color, as it can interpret light and dark colors on an object as depth indications.

I’ve been a bit busy as of late, sorry I haven’t been around as much. I’m excited about you getting the scanner up and running! Can’t wait to see what you scan first.

To help me work on remastering some of the details for my endoskull project (temples and front cpu port), I figured having some reference castings from my Timeless would help.

Over the last week, I snapped some molds off these areas and made some medium grey resin castings that make it easier for me to really see what’s going on. The reflections and weathering make it tough to see some details/forms clearly.

Remember, it’s my belief that the Timeless skull is the only available replica I have seen that is likely to have lineage to a T1/T2 skull (given these areas match those films) despite it being somewhat distorted in overall shape.

Here’s some eye candy of that process:

I still need to separate the parts and remove much of the excess resin, but hopefully you get the idea.

WOW. Yeah, the chroming process has softened some details, but it is not by much. Once the guy with the Timeless master finds it, I can ask if he can make molds of those same areas and send them to me for scanning, or have them or the entire thing scanned himself.

I initially thought the Timeless had filled in the indent on the front cover a bit, but further examination shows that it has the same "bubble" damage next to the center impression as the EMP museum and Bob Burns one. So it seems it is production casting accurate.

Honestly, looking at the front CPU port casting I made from the Timeless sitting on top of the JR skull, I'm quite surprised that the chrome really didn't soften the edges much. I thought the same thing as you, but I think it would surprise you if you saw it in person. Looks really good (other than some bubbles/flaws that I'll fix).

3D scanning will also introduce surface noise and soften edges and details, I assume you're aware of that.

And yes, as far as I can tell, the front CPU port on the Timeless matches all of the details you'd expect from a T1/T2 screen used skull.
