T1 and T2 Endoskeleton Research Thread

I found a decent free model of the Plasma rifle, but recreated the whole thing because it was pre-cut for printing and I couldn't edit it easily.
I used the 2 links to the auction pieces for the many reference pictures which were very handy! I have not added the rivets yet.

I also found a model of a Calico 950 gun that I used for the grip area. It was a bit low poly so I'll have to do some smoothing after printing it.

I included the original lettering and added my own with a serial number to personalize it a bit :D

AH! Good catch! I see even in the screen grabs it's intact. I'll have to change that.
I see in the 2 auctions that they both have different sights on top of the body. One is a small thin plastic tab with a V cut, and the other is like how I did mine where it's just a large flat bar, seemingly with no cuts.
Also i forgot to mention the gun grip didn't come with the ribs on it. I had to find a clever way to create them with discs with rounded edges.
I didn't know the size of the gun, so I used the auction pic with the yardstick in it. 25" (635) from the front of the bottom fin to the rear bottom edge of the "clip"/power cell... it'll be close enough.
I took a few small parts, like the levers, to print separately. They will also stick out about 1mm from the surface they attach to. Props look more realistic when they appear to have been assembled with actual parts, and not all of it one large single piece. I was torn over what else to make into greebles, and anything more wouldn't be 100% screen accurate, but might be more to my personal taste.

What is the best choice for the eye LEDs? A red tinted LED or a clear red LED? From what I can tell the red tinted LEDs supposedly have a more diffused light where the clear red are a much brighter red.

Looking at the look from the first two films, the red light is obviously not very bright, especially compared to licensed skulls that all have very bright eyes.

Yeah, the flashlight look of licensed skull eyes is ugly as heck. Definitely go for something muted.

FutureTechReplicas, the metal endoskull guy found the right setup. Cannot remember if he mentioned it in one of his threads here on the forum. I believe his username is RogueSkynet here.

Here's the link to his metal build:

Started over on the knuckle part of the initial sculpt and think I got the shape more correct. Then I split the knuckle off and started roughly positioning the other knuckles and rings and end caps... and even added in a little finger tip. Will probably make the connect bars between the ring and the next knuckle next. I cannot really make out how the finger tip is connected... but it may just be the same bars that connects between all the knuckles, so I will go with that until I see or learn the facts.

Using Quartz' Bob Burns pictures of the T1 hands he has, I fattened up the palm rod a whole lot. In some reference photos they are quite slender, but I always noticed on the ones in the movie and those Bob Burns hands that they were quite fat.

Old version to the left.

RBS-80. I fudged the detail on the top surface of the gun, as I couldn't wrap my head around the shape. It's not 100%, but it looks decent.

Started the spade grips. I may have to place them further out... but we'll see. Will also change the vertical bar on the cocking handle, as the one in the movie is just a flat bar of metal with holes in it and not the Browning M2 50 Cal piece.

Regarding the hands. Noticed the next bars and knuckle doesn't seem to be placed in the center of the one below, but seems pulled a little forward in the direction they are bending the fingers. Is that a cable controlled animatronic kinda thing, so it's easier to pull the fingers down and not have it lock in completely extended position? Anyone else notice this?

Here's the picture Quartz posted of the Bob Burns hand earlier in the thread.

Gotten far enough with the hand models where I could split them out and make the other fingers. Some parts are still not connected, but that will happen down the line when I figure some stuff out. Basically, I mainly worked on the length of the palm rods and getting them right - I did not add the angle at the bottom of the first and fourth finger since they are rotated on the palm plate, so it will be easier to get that angle right when I get to that point, so I just measured out to the longest section.

And the bars between each knuckle on the fourth finger is now accurately lengthened, so now comes the hard part of getting the bars right on the first to third finger too - they are just placeholder lengths for now. So basically... the most complete one is the little finger - the shortest one. :)

The bust concept it cool. Nice and compact, but shows a lot without feeling lacking or cluttered. I like how they put the shoulders - down and forward, like a real human bodybuilder shape.

However, the sculpt itself is inexcusable. Why haven't they gotten access to something original - and I don't meant the regular stuff all other licensed companies use, that's been recast all to hell and back, but ACTUAL screen used or Stan Winston made stuff and make their bust from that. Sure... they can make changes, like is normal for licensed companies. But starting from an accurate base would be so much more preferable than this almost cartoony looking creation.

And you can't say it cannot be done. Regal Robot and ParagonFX proves that wrong. And ICONS got access to something original back in the day - even though it may have just been the T2:3D storefront stuff. It was still original Stan Winston stuff. Not to forget M1.

I would have mentioned eFX... they tried, but failed.

This is one of the reasons I started my project.
