I also "performed" at the CSC Gala and I gotta tell you it was a blast. Towards the end of the party I changed out of my gear and went upstairs and checked out the exhibit. It was cool to just be in there alone, without any noise or crowds and really look at the stuff up close. However, I gotta tell you it was anti-climactic. I think it was because of two reasons. I think that because I've read so many books on the models and props over the years and looked at the amazing, close-up photos people have taken at other exhibits I felt like I had already seen it before.
The other reason is the 501st and the RPF. I guess I'm so used to the level of quality costumes and props you make that now that I've seen the real thing I wasn't that awestruck. Again, I'm reminded of all the talent out there. It's even more funny to me now when I hear people talk of screen acurate costumes. Why intentionally make something look thrown together which, let's be honest here, everything for EP4 was. I think your costumes and props are better. I mean it.
Don't get me wrong. It was very cool but I had to keep reminding myself it was the real thing. I never went to the MOTM exhibit so there were some suprises to me. I was suprised how big the Falcon model was. I know they built them to different scales but still. Likewise with the X-wing. I think one of my favorite things was the stop-action Tauntaun and the AT-AT with allen-screw covers popped off the side with the glue spots where they were. That made it really "Star Wars" to me.
