SW: Where Science Meets Imagination display in LA

The museum was supposed to get the interactive 3/4 scale LFL xwing, but I am not sure the shipping details all went through. She is still here in Denver, we have been working weekends trying to get the cockpit finished and the rest of the electronics up and running again.

I know there are a bunch of 501st guys and locals doing a big gala event on the 10th at the museum. Watch for several hyperdyne "goodies" to make their way out there....

I'm leaving within the hour. Any other RPFer's going today?

I performed there last night at their opening gala ball, a private function to raise money for the museum. It was a blast. Sorry, Rob, but won't see you there today--I'm pooped. Have fun.

Just got back...

Was fun and some very cool stuff I'd not seen before (specifically theblockade Runner, Land Speeder, 3' Star Destroyer, and the Sand Crawler. Disappointed as I was hoping to see the 32" Facon, and the 1:24 X-Wings. No dice on these.

Pics later...

I can't wait to go to this. I am especially stoked that they are letting people take pictures. I see the troopers pic, but it that actually the way it is? Can you get that close to stuff?
Sweet.
Thanks for sharing info.

I'm definately doing the Philly event, Chicage and Minn is a possiblity as well.

Personally, I would not drive to more than one city to see it. Its not worth the extra effort.

Here are some simple numbers:
Magic of Myth had (IIRC) about 250 items. This display has only 80 (I think -- feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). About 20% - 40% of this display was also on display at MoM.

Falcon cockpit was pretty cool. But I've been on Star Tours too many times -- I was expecting it to move ala a motion simulator. The cockpit itself remains stationary. Also, the visual program is more real science and less Star Wars, though there are some TIE fighters and X-Wings in there...

Anyone taking photo requests?

I would like some detailed pictures of Anakin's piloting headset from ROTS. I know this one was shown in Boston, so I assume it will be in LA too.
I am especially interested in how the central brick-like hinges-part looks -- from the inside. What they used to make the front and back head bands shut and how the over-the-head band is attached. These details are very hard to see in any of the pictures I have .. and I am still a little bit stumped on how to make them work on my replicas.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I was there too as Han Solo. Good to meet you Grant. And cool to see the hyperdyne goodies during our excruciating long "battle" between the Rebels and the Stormtroopers during dinner.

I can check for you but it may be a week or two...

I'm making a trip out this weekend and was wondering if the gift hop had anything of interest? Do they have any books of the museum props I can get ?

Also, are you allowed to use flash when taking pictures?

A good aount of high end stuff-- MR Vader helmet, Sideshow Maul bust, MR sabers, etc...

The book is about half real science and no astounding new photos of SW props.

Flash -- yes... I even placed the camera right on the glass to blast through and avoid reflections.

The biggest bummer was that everything was behind glass and you can walk around most of the displays, which is nice to look at, for sure, but not as good for pictures. You have reflections, light coming through from every angle and people in the background, foreground, etc.

I took a bunch of pics but I doubt I'll have too many great refs.
The FIDM exhibit was better for this as it was open but they didn't allow flash in several areas.
It's always nice to see stuff, though I can't help but wonder how much of it has been replaced through the years as it is worn down and damaged in transit, repainted, etc.

The models look great, many of them I have never seen in person, so that was a treat.
I have some Snowtrooper and Tusken Raider shots, i didn't remember to get any of Anakin's headpiece/mic. Sorry.

Hey just to let everyone here know, The Falcon simulation will be there during C4. The next stop on the tour doesn't have room for it. :angel So too all that are headed to LA for C4, you have a chance to check it out.

I have found that placing the camera against the glass (actually touching it) allows the flash to blast right through (in most cases) without creating reflections or bursts. And at this exhibit, I wasn't bothered by the volunteers working there when doing this. The challenge comes in to play when the display case is too shallow (like the case with the blasters) and the image is out of focus.

I have some stunning shots of the Falcon, the Blockade Runner, and a few others.

Either the headset is not there or I wasn't observant enough to find it. Unless perhaps it was on the mannequin displaying the Jedi costume...? Maybe it was -- if so then I missed it.

It is possible that my informer could have mixed up the exhibits.. as I could find an images of it on the web from Art of Star Wars but not any labeled to be from from this one... Nah well.

Thanks anyway guys.
