Great work!! I finally finished my rebuild based on your 18" designs... been slammed with work so I haven't had a chance to photograph it yet, but will post as soon as I can! Great choice on materials too, btw! I use Mold Star 15 and 30 for almost all my molds these days. I prefer Smooth-Cast 326 for my plastic though so I can better control the color (at least in theory..LOL)

Wow, that looks amazing. I especially love the teeth. I can't help thinking the paint is a little too rust colored, shouldn't it be a little more beige?

Ehh...I feel like the light might have hurt me a little on these. The actual color's a bit more like the teaser image I posted a few days ago.

But I also didn't want to mess with them in Photoshop, lest people think I was faking them somehow.

The first photo in my second post is a lot closer to the actual color, as well. But yeah - these are looking a little too reddish.

That is a sweet shot - but again, my paint is by no means that ruddy. Away from the strange combination of interior and exterior light I'd inadvertently shot in, THIS is more like the right look:

And that's something else to consider - there are images that make it look dirty brownish grey...other images make it look yellow...still others make it look creamy off-white. There is NO REASON I can't alter the paint job on finished replicas to look the way a buyer would prefer.

New pics!

There IS, of course, a bit of an issue. Apparently, I have some new pictures of the blade coming that will reveal new details. Since I kinda' want this thing to be the FINAL WORD on this prop, and the BEST it can possibly be if people are willing to pay for it, I need to slow down, get these pictures and MEASUREMENTS, and reassess the current sculpt.

That said, if my source can't pull it off, I'd love to hear any feedback or changes you guys think I might need to make. We're in a holding pattern right now, and I'd love for you guys to let me know what you think needs to happen with this replica. This will be my first project here at the RPF, and I want to do right by everyone.

Looks pretty nice.

Someone involved in the SPN production allowed me to look at some reference materials for the blade. As such, I've got a few changes to make...but not as many as I thought I would. So as much as I'd love to get this thing over and done, there's still some work to do. If you're at all interested in my replica, I promise you that I'll have it available for purchase, but I just want to get the thing as accurate as I can. I'd like to have the run happening by October, since there's a SPN Convention happening in my neck of the woods, and I'd love to have the final version signed.

How much do you think these will retail for? Great work by the way.

Still not entirely sure about the price. I do know that I'd like to offer the finished and unfinished option, and as I briefly mentioned above - I'm prepared to paint the blade in different ways to satisfy individual buyers.

Making the first actual mold this week, as a matter of fact! The first cast will be used to craft a master with far [EDIT: okay, SOME - because it was really pretty accurate to begin with ;) ] more accurate details (based on new evidence that has come to light). I'll be adding and subtracting a bit of material here.

I'm concerned with the difficulty of molding the teeth individually, but the body of the knife should present no problem.

I just had to share this with you all. One of my customers got the great chance to put one of my first blades in Dean's hand! This is an excerpt from her description of the experience:

"...And yes that is the First Blade that Jensen is holding!! It was my prop for the Photo op (Made by Scott Wheelis) I then later had him sign it during the auto session, so he got to spend a little more time with it! He was amazed at how much it looked and felt like the one he used on set for his scenes!! "

Of course he could have been just being polite, but either way as a prop builder it is sooo fun to see something I built end up in the actual actor's hands :)
