Supernatural:John Winchester's Journal

Could I ask what is inside the journal exactly? I am told it's an almost infinite resource for demons and monsters etc etc. How would you fit all that info in there? Just seems like a stretch.

Ive been using the clips from the show and desiphering the journal there, ive also used the website where you can visit the car and read some of the journal entries there. I don't know how much they would sell for, but I'm guessing quite a lot.

Is anyone else making a journal? I bought some vinyl the other day to make the outer shell out of, its not an exact match, but its pretty close, if i find anything closer ill just use what i have as a practise, but this is all the progress i have so far since last time

After thinking for the past year that at some point, if i keep checking ebay and going to all the charity shops and second hand book shops i can find, i will eventually find somthing that looks like the infamous winchester journal.

Alas, I haven't found ****e, so....

I was rooting in a T K Max the other day and found an perfect sized bendy plastic cover journal book, with 3 ring binds inside, it even has the little metal bits at either end that open the rings like the winchester one has.

Oh and when i say perfect size I mean its a5, but exactly a5, as filofax a5 are huge compared to the this one and the winchester one.

Anyway, this book, by reading the outside label it is some kind of company that sells the basic outside of a filofax type book, and then you go on the website to buy other parts and you put it together yourself how you want it. I tried the website which i can't remember the name of now sorry, but the website appears to not to sell parts anymore, or even the book i bought.

But still, my next step will be to find some cheap leather material that i can secure to the plastic cover.

Its not gonna be perfect obviously, but its the closest I have come so far.

Working on my own Journal. Although I don't have the correct one (at this time) I figured I would at least make something pretty close to the shows. At the present time I am working on finding out what brand they actually use on the show. Anyway here is a photo of my journal.

After viewing some screencaps, I am convinced that the prop is not actually a journal, but rather a day-planner. The pages are all marked off with dates and days of the week, which is not typically done with a journal, typically designed to be started at any time.

whoa, didn't see this thread. I am almost done with one, will post pics as soon as I am done.

Looks like a store bought journal - props wouldn't have wasted time making one. They would have bought several at the beginning of the show and distressed them. So you would be looking for a journal day planner made about 7 years ago. For continuity they would all be the same. In "reality", John's journal would have been from the 80's but it would have been too hard to find multiple copies of the same style from that long ago. I have noticed some of the screencaps seem to have slight variations in color - at first I thought they were different journals - but now I think they are just lighting variations making the colors wash out.

Hey everyone, not sure if this question has been answered.. im somewhat of a collector of these props.. Supernatural, Dexter, Harry Potter etc.. i have a reasonably small collection so far, but reasonably expensive..

Uh, okay.. Someone asked what this journal has in it.. well in fact it is the journal John Winchester was given by his friend to write down anything and everything that he experienced or found interesting or out of the ordinary since the unusual death of his wife, Mary.. the diary is actually based on the date fro the late 1980's to 2004.. it tells of John's adventures and the monsters he ran into.. It also shows drawings of sigils and other quick sketches of creatures.. All of his investigation and research into the lore on each of these monsters and of course the locations whiere he found cases of each..

I made my own personal journal but replicated some of the pages in John's. It's got all of the creatures/spirits from the show, plus any other that interested me. I keep adding to it all the time as I learn more.

Did anyone ever figure out anything about this book? I've been watching this show and its awesome so far.

Well, I'm gonna start working on my own, let me know if anyone has any tips or leads on any info pertaining to it.

Well, I've discovered that there's a featurette on the BLU-RAY of the first season of Supernatural.

Anyone out there that can tell me if there's any good info as to the make or where the base used for the Journal came from? I don't have the Blu-Ray so I can't do much, but if there's anyone that could check it out I'd appreciate it. Apparently there's a marker on disc 3 for the episode called home where there's a short clip about it with the prop master.

The “Home” episode marker includes:
- The “touchstone” episode’s featurette focuses on the writers realization during the production of this story that “Supernatural” lives and dies, not by the quality of the monsters or the horror, but the chemistry and family history between Dean and Sam – a statement with which I totally agree. 3 minutes 9 seconds.
- Local Information (text): Lawrence, KS. 1 page.
“The Journal: Design” is a featurette with prop master Christopher Cooper who walks viewers through the look of John Winchester’s journal, and McG and Eric Kripke who offer more thoughts on the books purpose. 1 minute 8 seconds.

Good find RUSTY85, I also only own the dvd...was gonna upgrade to blu-ray once the series ended, hoping for a nice boxset with some cool goodies with it. Maybe someone can upload it to youtube...there' s the feature on the Impala on there several times, and there's also a INSIDE SCOOP on SUPERNATURAL with Chris Cooper and he shows a few of the props..mostly weapons and the um....um...alien probe...:eek...lol, VERY curious as to what all it shows about the journal and the depth it shows it.

I'm trying to see if a buddy of mine is able to take a look at the Blu-Ray and see if there's any good information.
