Supernatural - Creating John Winchester's Journal

The book that came out for John's journal starts off exactly that. It's of course questionable how much of the rest is accurate, but you could use the text from the book.

I just recently re-watched the whole series but wasn't looking for specific things, so I have no idea :(

I'm curious about the fonts. Are you making your own fonts, to match John's handwriting, finding a close match, or just drawing all the text yourself with what I presume must be a decent tablet?
I did some graphics design at University but never really got on to Illustrator, although I made my own font using noodles once.

make some copies available or the emf's and then we'll help you...lol Actually not really sure if there's any eps right off the top of my head that shows the bottom of the page. If I come across them, I'll let you know.

So ransom it is... ;)

The journal is a long term project. Since everyone is being so supportive, I have decided I will put a package of pages up in the Junkyard after I have finished my daughter's journal.

As for the EMF, I live in a small condo not too conducive to soldering fumes in the winter. Now that I have a prototype, in the spring when I can vent things properly, I have enough materials to make four more EMFs for the Junkyard.

I hope that is OK with everyone.

:)

I am doing a bit of both. I made a font of John's handwriting from the "A coroner's office spokesman..." text. The problem is, the prop department has changed "John's writing" multiple times. They do not seem to care too much about the continuity of his handwriting.

Dibs on one of the four EMFs :love

I noticed the handwriting changes quite a bit as well. I think it's due to multiple people doing different pages in their own handwriting. However, I can tell you what the bottom of the page says.

"was signed in blood, though they do bear signatures of people. Blood undoubtedly stressed the seriousness of the signing. You were giving away your soul. "The blood is the life," says the Bible. That's why vampires are after your blood: They want your soul."

A lot of the excerpts from the journal are taken from real books published on demonology and the like. This happens to be one of them. (The Complete Book of Devils and Demons By Leonard R. N. Ashley)

Thanks!!

Updated page thanks to Lambzilla. I paraphrased the text to make it sound more like John could have written it.

And I have to accept that for some pages, I just won't know what they say. For those, I'll just have to do the best that I can.

at the top of the page yours says "In olden times in the people". It should be "In olden times in the West, people". Just so you know, the text of that page is word-for-word from the book, but as Kerr Avon said, in the John's Journal book there is a part that goes word for-word up to "you were giving away your soul. The blood is the life." and stops there. At this point there is no other mention of vampires, John might not even know vampires exist, so I would think this would be more accurate. Basically just drop everything after "The blood is the life." My 2 cents

I have found a screen shot with a little more of the bottom text. Revising again.

Final, revised pages.

Working on Roosevelt Asylum pages.

My re-creation including the newspaper article printed on newsprint from my printer.

This is one of those times where I will end up changing the text on the left page as it is more of the "A coroner's office spokesman..." fill text.

This spread was a lot of fun. Particularly making the newspaper article :) Although it was challenging to rip the edges "just so".

rub a little tea or coffee on the nespaper for a nice aged appearance....just a tad as it's not heavily aged in the screencap. Looks good though.

I noticed sometimes when an article appears in the journal, the text on the page opposite the article is just the article written out. Probably just for filler. Also, why kysupernatural said works like a charm, definitely recommended for article excerpts or other aged pages :thumbsup

Just start at episode one and watch the entire series ;) By the end of season 5 you won't need to watch much though, since the journal doesn't show up much after that.
