well, i got a reply in from one of the guys i was talking to about a custom run of this crystal made from the same stuff they make the crystals they laser engrave for 3d stuff.

the great news is the crystals would only be about 15-20$ a pop. roughly 9" long, up to 2" wide.

the good news is a prototype is only 150$, which is refunded when an order is placed.

the bad news is the minimum order is 300 pieces :lol

oh man.... somehow... that hurts. if the min was 40 or even 30, i could see a small run being doable from there. but 300 of em..... wow. thats a lotta crystals.

the good news is i still have a few other guys im talking to. i just had to share this one :lol

so close... yet so far.

after talking with the gent, we compared prices again, and his final offer was 200 pieces at an undetermined price.

so.... basically im not going with him

it was pretty cool of him to knock 100 off the limit his factory has though. i told him i appreciated it, but i still only needed tops maybe 25 of these things. we parted as friends, and i told him if i ever needed 200 of something that looked great, i would gladly keep him in mind.

if i only had 175 more people who were willing to toss about 40-50$ a crystal at me, we could have this knocked out in about 4 weeks :lol

ah well. still looking, got some new leads and ill be on the phone for a while tommorow (or later today).

ALRIGHT......

great news.

found a company, and i am currently negociating with them.

i THINK the final item will be in optical crystal.

heres the price breakdown

if we get 20 crystals, they run 50$ a pop.
if we get 50 crystals, they run 35$ a pop.

this is NOT including shipping, nor the fee for a prototype.

this is what i need from anyone/everyone. since i am sort of guesstimating my order on this, i would appreciate any and all help for figuring out the size and overall facets to this particular piece.

i will suck up the price for the proto myself, its going to run me about 60$ and shipping, but this is with a contract for the remainder.

as i said, there are at least 2 people i know of making these (i helped one out recently with some terrific source material), and i am sure that they will kick much ass when they are made. i plan to get a copy of each one.
