Superman renounces US citizenship

^Do you even know the history of Superman? or what he is based off of? Apparently not. Enjoy your globalist Superman comics:unsure

This is going to go over as well as when they tried to redo spider man, and made Uncle Ben a criminal. Maybe they'll make his suit UN Blue, and replace the "S" with the UN Logo. I love how
the UN is really important in the comic universe. In reality the UN is a bunch of bickering old ladies at a garden party. To paraphrase from Braveheart "They couldna agree on the color of shyte."

As a personal opinion, this statement - "Exactly. The American way isn't that uplifting anymore."

Sorry, People still want to come here in Droves, it seems to be those that are already here, that seem to feel that way. Then again, people that come here for the most part are willing to put in the work to live the dream, instead of feeling that they are entitled to jack squat, and are upset that they weren't handed the life they wanted (I'm not accusing the OP of this btw just making a generalization). Still, I'd rather live as a poor American, than as a poor person anywhere else.

Heck yeah. I still believe that America is THE greatest country in the world. Whatever you perceive her problems to be, the pale in comparison to what you will find elsewhere.

Trust me. I've been everywhere :)

Well, I guess i shouldn't cast stones as i myself am leaving the US of A to live abroad not too long from now. Most people do not travel and believe me when I say there are other places out there that would surprise you. As someone wrote earlier - we are no longer that shining light on the hill and that is such a true statement. You can blame the government, but seriously, when was the last time you walked into a place and got good service? How terrified are you when you kid goes out of sight at the mall or park? How many bitter people do you see in the day vs those who toss you a smile and grant a "good morning, afternoon, evening"? How truly free do you feel, even to speak your mind? Heck, I've already erased four or five sentences from this entry on a replica and prop board just so it doesn't get locked.

Being the one who wrote the above statement I agree with you 100%. America is a great country in many ways and if you work for what you want you can achieve much. But this country has also taken a beating the last couple of decades due to "mismanagement".

America being the "best" is of course subjective/value dependent, but Superman being a uniquely American hero is pretty evident, and this is silly. He can still be a global hero without a spit in the face like renouncing citizenship. I mean, I like other countries, and I have my US citizenship.

Holy crap DC's getting flak from all over the world about this, apparently other countries feel like it isn't right too.

Well, he is an illegal immigrant. It was only a matter of time until immigration kicked him out. :)

This is just to get people talking. Which it is doing.

Talking about these kinds of ideas and expanding the marketplace of ideas is always a good thing. It's what fiction is good at doing!

I agree. I've been to a lot of places that you just can't imagine exist on the planet, and people actually live there, but saying that..we don't have to settle for mediocrity here at home. We can become that shining city on a hill again. We just need to make some changes.

Just an FYI, but the "American Way" part wasn't part of the original slogan. Not saying I agree or disagree with the decision to drop it, just adding to the conversation.

Maybe Supe got inspired by that other famous world citizen Bertrand Russell.

America may be the best country in the world but it's also far more anti-intellectual than anywhere in Europe. American friends of mine lament what they see as an intellectual wasteland of malls and celeb-obsessed vacuity, and are only able to live in New York or San Francisco. Britain is well on its way to a similar level of inanity, but down here in Greece, and also in countries like Poland, the intellectual life of the ordinary citizen remains vivid - for the time being. They may be dragged down eventually by crass market-driven sludge, but for now, you'd be hard pressed, for example, to find a celebrity biography in a store window in Greece. And it seems almost everyone is thoroughly versed in their cultural and literary heritage, while being highly informed on a whole range of contemporary international issues, from American internal politics to the recent histories of Russia and China. In five years I haven't met an ignoramus yet, or heard tell of one. Greece is a mess economically, but it does have a healthy intellectual life coupled with deep cultural authenticity and I'd miss that if I lived in the States.

I've made many trips to NY and what I sensed of the wider country beyond disturbed me. This was confirmed when I stayed in New Jersey. Everything was so sterile, impersonal and bland, just malls and popcorn and weird, degrading TV and no pavements to walk on because you're expected to drive at all times...smiles on waitresses remaining in place even as they spill your drink all over you ( what is that? the boss owns their facial expressions? Ye gods!)...mall employees wearing badges saying, 'You're great!'... If you haven't lived with that stuff all your life, it all comes over as VERY weird, I can tell you, lol...kinda nightmarish...

Christopher Reeves is spinning in his grave...

Which is dangerous because he could bore a whole through earths crust and cause untold disasters!

The thing is, why do so many people STILL try to come here if we've "lost it"?

EVERY country is sliding these days.

As far as I'm concerned, America is still the greatest country in the world. It's the only one where a son of immigrants, of a class that only a few years ago was still downtrodden, can become leader of the nation.

What is the American Way? Freedom. Freedom to do, to be, and to achieve. Rights. The right to do what you want, when you want, where you want, and how you want. No interference. The right to worship -- or not -- as you see fit. The right to associate with whomever you want. The right to say what you feel without fear of retribution.

You get the idea.

There's not a person alive who doesn't dream of that sort of thing -- no matter what kind of hell hole or dictatorship or whatever they may live in.

THAT is what Superman should stand for.

The American Way.

DC has lost me as a customer. Feh.

Last time I checked, we were all HUMAN beings. We all bleed red blood. Who care's about "America" or "Country" - when LOVE is universal, when we all should love each other? ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE. Don't misquote me here either, you all know what I mean. Let's not hate. Lets LOVE.

Honestly, what we need is more love, more peace, and less reasons to divide us. That's just my two cents.

The problem is you are missing the point. I'm not going to argue that the US is the best country in the world, though it is. But it's absolutely better than many other countries out there. It is better than North Korea, China, Cuba, Venezuala, and many others out there. We're better because we give people the opportunity to make themselves better here. People aren't locked into a socio economic position, a caste level, or anything that prevents them achieving their maximum potential. We're the first to do this, and while we aren't the only one now, we've got the best track record around. That is the American way.

Quite frankly, the 'all the world needs love' his naive hippy claptrap.
