Are there going to be separate category for each super heroes to make browsing easier?

Marvel Fabric costumes
Spider-Man
Wolverine
Captain America
Cyclops or maybe list it under groups like
X-Men
The Avengers
X-Factor

Armored Marvel Characters

Iron Man/ War Machine
Crimson Dynamo
Armored Spider man
Thor

DC Fabric costumes
Super Man
Bat Man
Wonder woman
Aqua man

DC Armored hero's
Steel
Cyborg Super Man
Armored Bat Man
Gog
Hawk man
Magog

One question that might seem silly, is what if youre a NON Marvel or DC superhero. Hellboy or whoever. Just wondering.

I think everything you propose sounds great so far, I just hope those of us without costumes (as of yet) can participate!

Some ideas off the top of my head:

Champions of Justice (could also include non Marvel/DC characters like Hellboy, Judge Dredd, etc)

The Guardians

Society of Superheroes (SOS)

The Mighty Defenders

The Inconceivables

Maybe something with the word guild in it:

Heroes Guild

Not to begin with.
The reason is that if we devide it to much up in the begining with few members then there will be no good flow and talk in the variouse topics.
People will using more time to search than to enjoy reading progress.

BUT. When the forum gets more activity then we will do that.
But no logic reason to make one topic for each carracter if there is only a couple having it.

Yes we will add this as well.
But to start with we will not section it up.

I like the idea od another costuming forum......

I am all about comic superhero costumes and always have been....
I aso have no problem with there being a standard to aim at.....though judging it will always be a difficult task as people's opinions vary greatly on what is considered a 'good' or 'great' costume.....

I will however stand up and be counted as a defender of the paper mache crowd......no reason low end materials can't make a high end product.....it just takes a little effort.....

I thought my Captain Britain costume at D-Con 2008 was of a good standard......and my helmet was made of papermache.....admittedly finished up with some resin etc.....

I'm also a frequent poster on the LOH......recently you'll find that with moderator's such as GreenArrowFL the subjects are being kept on topic far more often.

I think the suggestion that Superheros as a forum section vs Heros leans towards showing a favouratism towards movie style costumes......while I have no problem with movie suits, a well made movie suit is beautiful to see.......II get the feeling that this is implying that movie suits are better than comic....just my thoughts.

I will always staunchly defend forums such as the LOH and WPE as there are some fantastic costumers / costumes there (despite there also being many off topic threads) but would always pay interest in another thread....

Out of curiosity.....what is you HONEST opinion of these types of costumes?

Would these be considered as meeting criteria or would a movie suit automtically be seen as better?

No As TMP said

Elite Super Heros (Highest quality based of Movie design)
Superheros (Highest quality based on comic books)

As I have pointed out before we all know that Comic style suits can look just as good if not better then there movie counter parts look at KMD Theatrics his comic suits are amazing! BTW loved your Captain Britain.

I understood the difference between Superhero and Elite Superhero, ie movie style and comic style....

What I was asking was would suit like the ones above meet the criteria for being allowed in the forum......seeing as there's a required level of quality I was trying to see where abouts the level was set......

I don't think it would be difficult to set the bar for movie quality costumes as we already have the standard (movie used costumes/props as worn by the actors) but the above costumes look pretty darn good for comic book standards, where the only standard we have is the artists' concepts. The costumers would end up setting the standard and raising the bar. So far the above costumes have set a standard. The question then is, can it be raised and how?

By the way, I'm a fan of the Excalibur comics and I like that Captain Britain. The others look great, too! :thumbsup I also just had another idea for a forum name after an old comic book series spawned from a graphic novel that didn't last long, but was pretty cool anyway. Not sure how many have heard of them but it sounds cool. How about...

"Hero Alliance"

There is a group of costumers called the Heroes Alliance that do charity fund raising events, hospital visits, etc.
They also have a forum.

Oh, that's cool then. It's a cool name, anyway.

So here are the ideas so far:

Armored Heroes

Hall Of Heroes

USN "United Superhero Nation"

Hero Headquarters

Champions of Justice

The Guardians

Society of Superheroes (SOS)

The Mighty Defenders

The Inconceivables (humor)

Heroes Guild

I really enjoy any costume but considering the modern advances and the amount of people that now watch movies compared to the amount that read comic books i would have to say that movie costumes have much more uniqueness versus a comic style costume.. i am not saying that either is better than one another that is up to the single person. But i enjoy seeing a movie style costume versus a comic..

It really doesnt matter though as long as you are having fun wearing them and creating them..

Costume Materials are not an issue either as long as it looks very close to the comic or movie..

I just looked over a bunch of photos from the "Heroes Alliance" myspace page (the main forum is down) and was very impressed by what they do. They really have some outstanding costumes, too. I'm not sure what the difference is between them and "League of Heroes" besides the community service aspect, which I think is great. I've seen some seriously nice comic costumes and also movie costumes (Superman, Batman, X-men, etc) at HA. What I wonder is what will this new group/forum have to offer that LOH or HA doesn't? The only thing I can think of is a highly organized, proactive community like the "501st Legion" with a website, member pages/profiles, a forum, etc.

Edit: Ok, just figured out that LOH and HA are the same group, or at least LOH hosts a forum for HA. My bad. But what is WPE?

The LOH and HA are separate entities. They may seem affiliated because some members participate in both areas. Because the "powers that be" over at The LOH believe in what the HA does, they host a forum for them there.

The LOH isn't anything other than an online costuming forum that happens to be centered on "superhero" costuming and has many very talented and proactive members.

The HA is a dedicated group of individuals that go out and make appearances.

The WPE (Wolf Pack Elite) is another costuming forum all together.

Fishy Bob, love your Captain Britain. Those other costumes you posted may not be "movie quality" to some, but they look great.

I think your costumes show that you have put great effort into them. (y)thumbsup(y)thumbsup:thumbsup
No doubt about that. Just the details level are great. The only thing i whould say whould need to be added is a muscle suit to enhance the carracter of a superhero as seen in the comic books. With a muscle suit i whould accept your costumes. I plan to put down a panel to do the judging on each aplication to the group. It will be strict but it is because we want the people applying to have the highest of quality and proportions.

My personal opinion for Captain america is that the top vest is layerd shells. Not printed. We will make some standard arround some costumes. Its just that i wish this board to be moving a bit away from those clean spandex suits. I like you added the belt, nice gloves and belt to it. Those small details are important to make a comic book carracter come more realistic to reffrence in todays life.
Now that said. I think your costume is great. But the reason i want to make this new group is to bring gather these costumes in one board.

We even se these texture depth comming alive in modern movie as superman, batman, x-men and ironman + many more.
Now with all these fantastic superhero films comming alive it will make this to a great opertunity to se how thing evolves from drawing to cenematic art of costume work. Its important to the film to make the carracters belivable...

I do in fact belive the hardest task whould be makeing Cartoon comic costumes belivable. Because of our lack of virtual vissual experience. Some cases that whould be plain impossible thinking of some heros got their armor shaped like skin and can move in any direction. There comes the small details in. To make it belivable and look great. We will of course be realistic. It will for sure be a challange but it will be allot of fun and enjoyment as well. Blood, sweet, tears and happines.

Looking forward to seeing the costumes. Because i am sure we will se allot of great costumes in near future once the website opens.

I belive that those people who want to join strive and work so hard with thier costume and carracter that they always reach for something better.
The small details get so much more important. Its about the vissual experience and making it belive its real in seeing the carracters staying in carracter at all times in public, how they pose and proportionally wear the suit, and how good visually and belivable the costume look up close.

  • Quality and execution of the costume in general. Choice of materials.
  • Hight / depend on carracter.
  • Proportions of the costume beeing worn.
  • Carracter / look alike. But with a mask allot can be done.
I welcome you to the board once done and apply with your Main costume and have the others as secondary carracters just like how the 501st does it. Charity will be the the thing we aim for. :):thumbsup

If I may ask, when you say there will be standards around the costumes, can you be more specific? I am just wondering - because if you have 50 people with similar Batman costumes, there will literally be 50 different costumes.

I just love seeing people be creative, and I was wondering how much "required" will be allowed, -vs- creativity of the maker of the costume.

Why do I ask, I have 9 costumes started, ZERO finished!:lol:lol:lol

Ok when it comes to batman it will require some stuff.
He cant be to short. Cant have beard or mustage. He has to wear the costume proportionally right to make the carracter. Enhanced by muscles or a mucle suit to make the proprtions right. For a comic book batman then the Cowl will be an important feature. The admam West batman mask will not work Nor will any fabric features do. Boots, gloves and belt also important features as well as a nice cape.

A superman. He cant be 5.8 tall or have a belly. and as above.
This group will be dedicatd to bring the suprheros carrater alive in a most possible and realiastic way, so therfore more important to enhance these features.

For superman its a bigger chalange, its more important that the wearer also got the carracter facial features for a costume like this because superman is one of the few people who actually shows his face.
I seen supermen with elvis wig. Its not belivable.
I seen 6.4 foot very slim guys be superman and seen small people out of proportions. I dont mind people dressing up in their favorit carracter, but this group will be for those who wants to dress up and do the carracter "justice"

We all know when we se a costume that has been put allot of work into.

We also will make some standards how the group will preform at conventions. The idea is group in shift and then change with supporters then back. So there will be constant activity at the stands with helpers and carracters in costume.
At big events i advice to group people up and devide them across goin and posing as teams.
