The story behind the build:

Like most people i started a MKVII build a few months ago. The Avengers movie hit theater and i was in instant love with the MKVII so i decided to do a foam/cardboard build.

However the MKVII wasn't the first armor i fell in love with. That was the MKV or the suitcase armor.

A buddy of mine asked me to come along to a fair this year around september so i needed a suit. The MKVII will take a serious amount of time because i want to fibreglass and bondo the cardboard.

So here comes my brain keeping me awake for severall nights on how to speed up the progress and then it hits me, i need an emergency armor!! Something i can pull out of my backpack to look awesome in a crowd.

But after many design sketches, a lot of headache and booze i came to the conclusion that there only is one emergency armor up for the job.

MKV

Hey, I'm with it! MK V is awesome armor and one rarely built. The is a guy on here (sorry, forgot your name! >_<) that built some pretty cool mkV armor that actually collapses to (almost) brief case size. You can find his videos on you tube or search these forums. It's pretty impressive.
Keep us updated on any progress. You have my attention!

The build.

I started this morning and thanks to a full time job, some other things i like to do and my lovely girlfriend. I can only do so much every now and then.
That is why i am using foam for this build.

The only template i really took time for to draw was the unibeam housing. From there on i freehanded every part with the motherload of reference pictures i have.

Progress so far:
Chest is build with some pieces of the abs and the hands are almost done.
Still need to do the fingers here.

I also made a form fitting ear piece since i want a very tight helmet with no intention for servo's and such. It is afterall my emergency armor.

Yeah is saw it he and the guy with the rapid prototyping inspired me to swing in and attempt it myself.
Progress was just posted.

Thanks i hope you do.
Took me about 2,5 hours for the chest and an hour to get the hands and handplates done.

Hold on a tick!! 2.5 hours? 2.5 HOURS?!?!
With no template an all that detail???
I have more than 2.5 hours invested in THIS chest piece and that's from robo's templates!!

That's it. I officially hate you... ;-P

*edit* that was supposed to be a thumbnail... Sorry.

Haha i am rather small so that might be it haha.

I am using the new reactor to have an updated mkv, i will keep the round center however. I just like the new reactor better.

Brilliant work mate!

Only 2.5 hours? *****!

I can't wait to see this complete - never seen a MK5 replica suit yet! Keep up the good work brah

Thanks for the kind words guys. I really apreciate it. Gonna take a shower now and a cup of coffee after that. Then move out for more foam so there will be an update within a few hours.

A few hours became multiple hours thanks to work. However i do have some stuff to show you all.

This is the foam i use. I only strip the aluminum foil.

And a pic of the rt in the chest.

More pics of the arc and the new helmet as soon as imageshack will actually upload my pics again.

Why bother stripping the aluminum from the bottom?? You could leave it in and literally cook yourself when you suit up!! :facepalm

Haha that is exactly what i thought. Might build a mid-winter armor with the foil still attached haha
