Studio Scale Space 1999 Superswift

How are you doing on this project? I want one really bad!!

I have so much stuff on the go, that I have to put this one on hold. I still want to do it though, but I also want to make sure its is as close as I can get it with my research and 3d ability.

Can anyone confirm if the brown tanks on the side are from the Dapol tank car kits? Any kit specific?

No, they're Plastruct/EMA tube. 2" wide, judging by the Harrier parts, but you should double-check that. :)

Thanks. I was wondering about that, since one side of those tanks is a hemisphere and the other elliptical.

I'm bringing this project out of mothballs. I was never completely happy with the cockpit section. Tinkercad was limited in what it could do, and my 3D skills at the time were rudimentary. Initially I thought I could create a skeleton framework for the body (supported by a steel pipe) of the SS and cover that with styrene. With the advent of more powerful and faster printers, I just realized that wouldn't be necessary and the whole body could be made to be glued together, however, with my designs I usually add a central support anyway.

I recreated the Dapol bridge part accurately (except without a couple of details on the bottom) and used that as a way to gauge the length of the studio model. I do have the Plastruct pieces somewhere in my stash, so I will recreate them accurately later on. Once I get the hull length dialed in, I'll work on the cockpit again.

Good morning Tazman. YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION! How'd I miss this beauty. I'll be watching in earnest!
Cheers,
Kevin

I downloaded some greeblie files from Minifig on Grabcad, and I think it proves that I'm on track with the size.

You didn't miss much, just an attempt at the cockpit section in TinkerCad. Strangely, I did use that as a guide to build a new one. I shelved this project a while ago, but now, I'm thinking it will proceed. I don't have the room to keep it, so it may go up for sale after I take a few pictures of it and perhaps take it to a model show in my city, if they have a Sci-Fi section. Some of the WW2 modellers snub the sci-fi sections since it's not real.

Are these tanks on the side...

They are Plastruct tube and domes.

Thanks. The globe in the center looked too smooth to be a dome, so I thought it was a model piece.

Would you happen to know what kit those plates on the side of the brown tanks are from? (The one that has the maneuvering thrusters on it)

Also Plastruct tube. Basically, cut out the side of a tube like the two it sits between, flip, then stick on. Martin did a similar thing on other subjects, such as the Altares. Most of the details are from the Harrier. The 6 "U" shaped parts around that plate are Plastruct ladder clips.

Thank you so much! I was searching British train model sites since I thought it was from a tank car kit.

The Lindberg Moonship is a fairly small kit; the storage parts are not huge. They are required for Cowboy's freight hauler ( and Cayman's ship, and others) in Battle Beyond the Stars. Not much over an inch long on those parts:
