Studio Scale Endor Moon Bunker Generators

Hey all! About 10 years ago, I started to ID the Endor Moon Bunker Generators as seen in ROTJ. Many of the parts were obvious, but some were complete mysteries to me. Fast forward to 2020 and I finally found all the components and donor kits! None of this is 3D printed, all scratch-built. From then until now, I've (very) slowly made progress on molding each assembly.
Well, it's now official, I will be releasing an accurate studio scale kit of the generators very soon.

While accurate, please keep in mind that I had to take artistic liberty with the large cup assembly. To my knowledge, the original cups from that era no longer exist. And believe me, I now have a plastic cup collection!

The kit will come with two complete towers (20 parts in total), it will be hollow cast, and it will include all the base material as seen in the Archives today (acrylic, hardwood, and tubing stock).

I even built a tower in Rhino so that I could calculate the needed casting material and to draw my instructions. I hope you enjoy the update!
P.S. The two towers in the last pic are made from rejected castings, so you will see bubbles and blemishes on these.

- Joe

Cant wait Joe! I know how meticulous tou are in research, building and casting so I know the quality will be top notch!

I Always wondered about these generators and thought it would make a cool project. Hats off to you for trying to find the right cups.

This looks great Joe. I had no interest in making these til now. Your kit sounds like a great idea. I want to make it!

I never would have thought to stack cups to make a model. Those ILM guys were next level. Great project, good luck with the kit !

Thank you all! I also appreciate all the words of encouragements from friends along the way! I will announce pricing and details soon. So far, all 7 initial kits are on hold, pending further details. Again, thank you for all the kind words!

Joe

Appreciate that JD!

I forgot to mention:
The latest pictures do not show the Saturn parts nor the base acrylic and wood stock; I am still casting and cutting.

I incorporated alignment marks so you don't have to guess where to drill and pin. I will also mark the dead front center on every generator. Lastly, the hat part will arrive pre-pinned. Hope you like the update!

Awesome! I started this same model 10+ years ago and it's still on my shelf unfinished. Great to see this finally ID'd. I know one of the donar kits is $300 alone

Thanks again for all the kind words guys! Thanks, Dave!

seven, correct. Donor kits alone equal to approximately $950 (on the low end if you get lucky)....for one tower! That's not including Plastruct parts and cups. And as you know, working with those thin poly cups is a complete PITA.

The way I I see it, a kit with 2 towers and a base is a steal! On top of the other features, I've located all but one small seam line along hard edges for easy to no cleanup (in some cases). It's a niche subject but a passion project that I hope people enjoy. Thanks again, all!

This is amazing work, Joe, and so fun to see! I'll be watching for kit availability and will probably have to jump just because - too neat to miss out. :)

The best part of watching this is knowing the fun of discovery and hunting you must have had behind the scenes - been there and know that fun and satisfaction so well. Congrats!

The hunting and discovery have definitely been satisfying, but a chore as well, haha! Concerning just the ID's, all (not including the Saturn V) were found without kit scans, unfortunately.

Many times, I'd get a hunch and would have to dig through eBay, or, search the internet until I found pics that would lead to other clues. There were hundreds of after work hours just surfing away and looking at the same 21 reference photos (many thanks to whoever posted those way back in the day). But yeah, looking back, it was fun in it's own weird way.

Today's update: I'm closing the finish line on casting the first 7 kits. After that, I will make 5 kits at a time depending on demand. I'll finish each kit before collecting payment as well. Cheers and have a great night!

Joe
