I did a little work on the AT-ST today. The legs on the model kit are not posable, and I decided to change the leg position to make the model a little taller. The legs on the left is how the kit is designed to fit together, and on the right how I want them to look.
I used a hobby saw to remove a portion of the “male” joint so the leg can rotate into the position I want.
I used a piece of scrap paper to make a template of the joint with the new angle.
Then I used the template to transfer the cut angle to the other part.
Here are the legs in their new position, and they still fit together with a snug friction fit despite the material I cut off.
Now that I have changed the angle of the knee joint, I also had to change the angle of the hip joint. To accomplish this I removed the “male” joint and filled in the “female” joint with Bondo.
I let the Bondo cure for a few days, then I installed a metal pin where the “male” joint was, and drilled a hole to accept the pin where the “female” joint was. Now the hip joint can rotate to any angle I want.
More to come soon. Thank you for looking.
