Those troopers helmets in the backround sure look like ROTJ, not ANH

They are Special Edition Stormtroopers (moulded from old ROTJ parts), which were then filmed several times and composited into the shot to give all those extra troopers.
The Costuming Department didn't think Joe Public would notice the subtle differences between ANH and Special Edition style Stormtroopers.... which is why they also gave us the new Sandtroopers that look more ROTJ / Special Edition than the existing ANH troopers from the original cut of the movie.

Considering the extra Special Edition Trilogy scenes featuring Stormtroopers all featured in ANH (bar a long shot as Vader walks to his shuttle in ESB, and the 'crowd-surfing- Stormtrooper in the Coruscant end sequence in ROTJ), it baffles me that they didn't remould a set of ANH armour from the archives, to create the Special Edition suits from :rolleyes

Cheers,
John

PS - Well spotted Clutch... certainly looks like his aerators are missing their wire screens. Oh, and there's Mr. No Stripes again in the background standing by the Escape Pod. :p Another drink everybody. :cheers

.. Damn I can't keep up with all these Mr No Stripes sightings. :p

Well spotted Clutch, definantly looks that way.. God bless High Definition.

and John I agree with ya about the SE troopers (although I got used to seeing the Jedi stormies in ANH after a while). I can see Lucasfilm thinking it wasn't worth the money re-creating entire ANH suits just for the new scenes, but it wouldn't have hurt them to just raise the brow a little, swap to flat cellophane lenses and paint the frown grey... to at least make an attempt at consistancy.

Couldn't have been a weapon set for stun, wrong sound effect.

Might have been the troopers firing at Han and Luke, not them firing at the troopers, hence no marks. And since when could troopers hit their targets? :p

Han and Luke may have deliberately decided not to use blasters just in case they damaged the armour.

umm... or the fact that the 2 troops that went into the falcon had stunt helmets on... yet han and luke have heros...

maybe they shot and killed those 2 and han already had 2 suits stashed away. :p

AKA lazyness

That pic from the special edition has always bugged me, I liked it when the troopers ran out of room and hit a dead end, then they had to fight. Makes more sense then a room on the death star where officers and troops stand at attention for no reason for hours on end.

:lol :lol :lol If I could axe out that addition and those awful SE "sandtroopers" ANH SE would go over a lot better with me. ;)

I'm rather new to the differences between the various incarnations of Trooper armor, perhaps someone could enlighten me on the difference between the "awful SE 'Sandtroopers'" and real ANH Sandtroopers?

I,m am wondering the same thing.

And I have to say WOW. I thought I was anal about things.

Once agian I am fealing a little average compared to the extent that you all have achieved here.

Man, I have alot of homework to do. LOL

Things I can spot that tell me this isn't an anh sandtrooper.

Clamshell handguards.
Incorrect ab button plate.
Drop boxes on belt.
Molding around armor.
Black frown.

Intriguing, thanks for the info. From this I see that the recently released Hasbro Sandtrooper figure is based on this design, as it has all the above mentioned points except for the upside-down ab plate.

So, based on what has been posted here, this is what a 'screen accurate" stormtrooper could look like.

(sorry to whoever's statue that was. It was the first decent trooper picture that came up in my search)

LOL... :lol

If you want to see the differences between the SE Sandtroopers and the OT ANH Sandies check out www.mepd.net

Clutch, these screen grabs are awesome.

If you do your stormtrooper up like that, you'll be the envy of TK's everywhere. :lol

That would be an impressive spectacle... and definitely funny. :)

I'm definitely dedicating my next Trooper helmet build as a Mr. No Stripes replica....it's really grown on me... :D

not costume, but I noticed this:
tkscope.jpg

Is that a scope on the side of his MG-34???
[/b]
I think that's just part of the gun.The part that the barrel shroud swings down so you can remove the barrel.I think it's called the cam.It looks that way on my resin mg34.

I think it sticks out too far to be that. Or the shape doesn't look right to me. I dunno there is something odd about it. But you are probably right.
