stormtrooper helmet questions

WOW, seriously... that looks like ass. Throw it out and wash your retinas of the memory of this piece of junk. Sorry if this is offensive, but man... that's one crappy bucket of dung.

Personally, you bought it for what it is. It wasn't mislabeled or touted to be something other than what it is. I don't follow the logic of wanting a refund for something you walked into buying with open eyes. Why should seller be bothered with this?

You bought it, deal with it, sell it. The only way you'd have any reason to bother the seller for a refund is if he scammed you.

The new link looks like a TE2. Not sure if it's a recast - the price certainly alludes to that, though, so not recommended.

i might as well try, plus, he never said anything about it being cracked.
if he dosent accept the refund then i guess im just stuck with it cuz nobodys going to buy it knowing what condition its in.

makerofthings sells recasts on ebay, and these are, what I heard, pretty bad. Do not buy.

If I were you I'd get myself over to FISD. This topic covers most of the common makes of armour whose providers offer both a good product and good service. There is of course politics behind it which is well documented and you can make up your own mind as to who you buy from.

However, from what I've seen if you're after a good, rugged helmet get an AP. If you're trying to save some money you can pick them up quite cheaply (for an accurate helmet) secondhand meaning that they're already built too.

thanks for the info SamJ, the thread is realy helpfull! but if i cant get a refund for this helmet then im stuck with it. keep in mind that this is a christmas present, and though my parents suport my hobby, they arent realy willing to pay hondreds of dolars for one helmet. a hundred was pushing it enough, and plus ive got to get about $80 worth of other parts to finish it excluding paint. so if i can get a refund then im going to have to go with the cheepest one i can find and although i dont suport recasters i might have to go with that kit.
anyways here are a couple mere pics showing how big the helmet is. i have no clue how big they are suposed to be so if someone could tell me if its an accurate size it would be apreciated.
thanks

I beg you to reconsider and rather save up some more and not throw your money at recasters. If it's a present from your parents, just ask them to get you something else.

I'm not trying to be preachy or put your wish to own a trooper helmet down, but buying from recasters is supporting them and is the direct cause why other cool cast from screen used items will never be made available. The recasters don't care, they just want your money.

just sent a message to the guy i bought it from explaining how the helmet was pretty much a peice of crap and not the halfway finished kit that needed a litle bondo work and new paint like he described so hopefuly i can get a refund from him.

i would wait and save up some money and get a nicer helmet, but im only 17, with no job, and im desperatly trying to pay for parts to a car im restoring so this is realy my only chance to get a trooper helmet within the next 4 or 5 of years (due to college costs). im not trying to support what recasters do and im not trying to make enemys here, but unless i can find another kit for under a hundred dolars, the recast is realy my only choice.:confused and thats only if i can get a refund for the helmet i have.

I feel your pain with the college costs, I made a massive mistake with my first choice of course and had to work almost full time, in addition to uni work, to pay tuition fees in order to do the course I wanted.

Firstly don't worry so much about the refund/PayPal thing, it'll either happen or it won't. If the helmet is in a different state or parts are made of a different material there is a good chance that it will. I'm not saying it definitely will just that the odds are in your favour. Good luck with it.

Most importantly though seriously don't think that the recast is your only choice. Not only do recasters do a lot of damage to the community but I've heard of people trying to build the Maker of Things helmets and in most cases its unbuildable. If you find yourself in this position you probably wouldn't get a refund on it because it's a kit and was intact when it got to you so you'll be out of the money and stuck with some badly formed styrene. Think of it like buying bald tyres for your car - waste of money and only bad things will come of it.

Take a step back, get something else for Christmas if needs be, save up a little bit more to put towards it. Nothing worse than having something your not happy with and if you're going to spend $180 after fixing this then you could probably get a good, accurate and finished helmet secondhand for not that much more.

well after a couple of messages back and forth of him trying to tell me the helmet had no cracks or scratches/ scufs, even after i showed him pictures, he just stoped messaging back so i guess im stuck with it. :unsure
any one know if this helmet is even an accurate size?
or maybe what helmet it is and who made it?
i was also wondering if anyone here knew if the padding sold on ebay thats specialy made for trooper helmets would fit in it.
realy any information on it would be greatly apreciated.

You were told what this helmet was before you bought it, FX or FX recast is the biggest version available, about 10% bigger than a screen accurate version. What you have is so bad , definately a bad idea to spend any more money on. We have all bought rubbish thinking we were saving a bit of money, please listen to advice better next time.

It seems you have not the money to buy a complete Trooper armor until after college - so you don´t go for trooping with it, i assume?
Why spend money for padding for a oversized bucket? If you didn´t get your money back ........ build it as good as possible, and put it for display on a shelf. Even the size makes no real difference then.

If you want to wear it in your livingroom ........ noone will care if it´s accurate or cracked up, trust me. But maybe they gonna take care that you have to wear another white-suit then, if they see you doing it. :love

As long as you don´t want to troop with it, it´s no big problem to use it as a display piece. Most people will reckognize it as a "helmet from the bad guys from that SF-movie, isn´t it?"

But first - go the route to complain with paypal, to get your money back.
