Stormtrooper Helmet 1st attempt at prop making

Thanks grenater, I had fun building this thing. I'm debating starting a new stormtrooper from scratch (maybe a different Pep file) or trying something new.

Wow, looks like a great job. Are you going to paint the details too?.... Or stickers.

It's hard to see in the small thumbnail pictures ( click to enlarge) but I hand painted the grey and black details and cut a template out of masking tape for the blue tubestripes. I still need to finish the mic tips and add some foam padding to call it done. BTW how do you guys post larger pictures?

so this is straight bondo and fiberglass? Is it heavy? I assume if I ever made an attempt at one of these I wouldn't likely cast it, so I've been curious if I left it just reson and bondo if it would crush my head after a while.

Yeah, its straight fiberglass resin and bondo and weighs 3 1/2 pounds. I'm not sure how much the cast plastic replicas are but 3 1/2 pounds doesn't feel heavy to me (I wear a fiberglass hardhat all day at work and it's not much heavier).

I don't say that lightly as a 501st we are strict on details, though stormtrooper isn't my specialty I can say I wouldn't be able to do better.

That's really amazing, man. It's incredible how identical it looks to vacuformed helmets (to my eye, at least). I feel like you must have a real delicate hand to apply the Bondo/resin/fiberglass without occluding any of the detail. You should totally do Fierfek's Episode VII Stormtrooper file next! That would look sweet! Awesome work, you make me wanna start some pep work.
