Steampunk Inspired Ray Gun

Hey guys! So this is my first official physical prop! I am currently an art major finishing up my sophomore year of college. For my Design Fundamentals II class we had to create an Assemblage piece (basically we had to take random objects and turn them into another object) I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for me to make my first prop! I decided that I wanted to make a Steampunk Ray gun. I made this using some forks I had bent at various magic gigs, an old Airsoft Revolver my brother gave me to use as a movie prop, a tin can, a LOT of Electric Tape, some Rubber Bands, Magnetic LED's (I got these from thinkgeek... they are AMAZING!), and Copper spray paint. I also painted the handle a Rusty brown color and painted some grey highlights on the gun. I really love how this piece turned out! Let me know what you think!

Maybe it's just me, but I've got to wonder why a raygun would need a projectile rotating cylinder and hammer if there isn't a logical reason for them being on an energy weapon. Holstering this would be impossible unless it's meant to be carried at all times. As intimidating as the forks look, I may have used them as a protective cage of some sort over the "Beam Emmitter" since it's a fragile part of the weapon.

But then my comments can be ignored as long as you had fun building it and get a decent grade for the project.

Well in my mind the rotating cylinder would hold cartridges of some sort which would provide the weapon with its energy blast. Like each power source could shoot 500 rounds before you had to move on to the next one. I also envisioned the hammer as some sort of safety mechanism. As in you had to cock it back every time you engaged the weapon. As for the forks I was trying to use them as a protective cage but I guess I may have to modify it a bit more since it wasn't clear enough.

Thanks for your feedback! I had a lot of fun making it =] I def can't wait to make some more props!
