Steampunk Bane (TDKR)/WIP - Con pics on last page

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas/First WIP

So should I glue all the pieces (minus strapping) of the mask together, prime and paint by hand or should I prime and paint the pieces individually and then glue them together? By pieces, I mean the parts shown in post #28. They are are in another pattern but the pieces are generally the same.

Here is a previous attempt at a Steampunk Bane, there are definitely some nice parts to this

I like to paint before assembly where possible, but for example if you use hot glue, it will often times squeeze out between pieces AND pull paint with it. So I usually have to paint some before AND after.

I was thinking the same.

I'm glad you liked my drawing, I think the combination of both mine and Prime's would be, hands down a great costume.

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas/First WIP

Small update: I have finally figured out the blowoff valve pattern on the mask. I went with a more familiar one from the base mask. Bear with me, the pic is a pre-paint and glue mock up. It snowed here recently and I am waiting for some of it to go away before I start priming and painting on my porch.

Also, I made a paper template of the segmented breastplate I will be using. Many of the corners with be rounded but I prefer to make those curves with the dremel and not with my x-acto knife. The foam will be half inch thick and I will see how it looks layered on to top of one another (because it is segmented) but I will probably cut sections down to a quarter inch where the four pieces meet and overlap. I haven't figured out how I am going to secure the pieces together yet but I will blow up that bridge when I get there.

Re: Steampunk Bane Ideas/First WIP

I have also worked out what I am going to be wearing. The first pic is the shirt and pants I decided on. I wish the site had more colors but I got to work with what I got. It is not overly formal (which I didn't want) but still brings something to the table. Both shirt and pants button up the forearm and along the legs. That makes it not too bulky for the gauntlet and the pants make built in spats.

Also, I decided on a gauntlet variation and this one in the pic really spoke volumes to me.

Finally, I have started the battle belt with kidney plate pattern and I will post that soon.

Re: Steampunk Bane (TDKR)/First WIP

Small update: Templates are set and foam is ready to cut. Armor and kidney plate should be cut and dremeled(?) by Sunday. Looking for some different tubing for the mask, belts for straps and hopefully some leather at thrift stores in the morning with the missus.

If I am lucky, I might be able to get some sealing done on the foam and some priming done on the mask Sunday as well.

I kinda eyeballed the measurements on the kidney plate and took a pic to see the size. It looks pretty good in my opinion. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Re: Steampunk Bane (TDKR)/First WIP

Update: Got a lot of paint and assembly done today. Everything came together well. Got some post-glue paint touch ups to do because I got a little crazy with the glue gun.

Also pictured is the leather strapping I am hoping to use for the mask that I got off a thrift store purse for $1.50.

No armor got cut today but that happens a lot to me during football season. I am also stalling in hopes to running into an affordable hot knife set for better cuts.

Sorry, my confusion on the postings. Great idea mate! And I think you need to get one of your buddies to be Steampunk Batman! That would be killer!

Very cool, I especially like the idea with the bowler cap

Re: Steampunk Bane (TDKR)/First WIP -Updated Pics 12.23.12 Bottom of pg. 2-

Thanks for the kind words. It makes all the hard work and time worth it.

No real updates today but I got this from the missus this morning. She must love me cuz this the real deal version. It is going to pull it all together with something familiar from the base TDKR Bane and it is period correct because humans have been using and wearing shearling coats and jackets since ancient times.

Also, I am going to try and make some time to cut out the segmented foam plates and kidney plate. AFTER some game time with the missus of course.
