Steampunk Bane (TDKR)/WIP - Con pics on last page

Re: Steampunk Bane (TDKR)/First WIP -Mask 80% DONE (Updated 1/13/13)

Small update: I ordered all the soft parts of the costume throughout this last week and they should be slowly showing up one by one. I am re-thinking some aspects of the armor and I am hoping to have it done by this weekend. The mask is pretty much done, I need to do a good once over before I do a clear coat or two on it.

That mask looks amazing. I'm a pretty big fan of steampunk and I was just waiting for somebody to do a steampunk Bane. Now all that's left is for someone to pull off a steampunk Batman and you guys can meet up.

Dammit, man, that mask is sweet.

I agree with the comments above :D Are you completely done with the head part of the costume or is there any more additions you plan to make? Like any eye wear or hat?

Just a thought. Great work regardless!

Thanks man! It was a lot of hard work and trial/error but I think it turned out pretty good. It is funny how over the course of a build, things change. That is why I like the more off the beaten path builds. There is no screen accurate, no exact way to make things. Frees you up to do your own thing.

And thanks Primo, high praise when it comes from you.

I thought of all those things Seth but to me, they didn't fit my vision. I wanted simple and less comical. Arguably he will be more Dieselpunk than Steampunk since I pulled more materials and things from a pre-WWII than from Vicotorian through WWI timelines. Plus they were cheaper in price. I wanted him to pretty much be the same as the movie but re-imagined as a mercenary in a steam-powered retro future. I left enough familiar elements that there will be no confusion of who he is.

The armor is the last piece I need to work on. My breastplate is half done but I am debating scraping it to make the armor that the Germans wore in WWI. It is pretty cool, look it up. As the rest of my pieces come in, I will do a full dress mock up before dying the fabrics so show you guys the full monty.

Re: Steampunk Bane (TDKR)/First WIP -Mask 95% DONE (Updated 1/16/13)

Sick mask, still obviously Bane but definitely steampunk looking.

Can't wait to see the final product man. Oh and that German WWI armor looks cool, pretty similar to your original design too.

Thanks man, and I do like that German armor. And you are right, very similiar to what I was originally thinking of going with.

All the bits and bobs should be delivered in the next week to week and a half. Hopefully the armor will be done and then dying all the fabrics to what I want. Hope to be finished in the next two weeks. I will keep everyone posted.

Thinking of practicing some battle damage on some scrap and dinging up the mask a bit. It is looking a bit too clean for my taste.

Quick question, where did you get the foam template from? I may make one (not steampunk, just bane). Also how thick was your foam?

Pretty sure LC used Eric Queen's updated template like I did. 1/4" foam (6mm).

Thats a pretty cool concept. Not much into steampunk but appreciate the art and mechanics of it.

Yeah dude, what he said. But I modded it, cut out an extra section on each side, thinned the top and prayed for a miracle. The scaling is of the pic is completely up to you to do. I think it took Primo three or four different paper templates to get his right and I made like five. Plus the updated template is just a picture so I had to make that one huge, freehand the extra parts and still pray the scaling was correct.

It is trial and error all the way man. I am 6'0" with an average sized head and the scale I used was 285% and it was still too big. I took two inches out of sides and freehanding the thinning of the back and top.

I appreciate the kind words. I am not too big into it either but I like the freedom in it. Much like Christopher Nolan, I got to imagine some familiar in a different way. Those are my favorite builds. I don't like getting caught in something static . If you read most of this thread, I changed directions a couple times on many pieces.

SAAAAAWEEEETTTTT! WTG dude, that mask looks awesome, and that extra weathering really did the trick!!!

Re: Steampunk Bane (TDKR)/First WIP -Mask 95% DONE (Updated 1/16/13)

I really like this. It has such an iconic look, but in a way that most of us have never seen before. Excellent job!

Re: Steampunk Bane (TDKR)/First WIP -Mask 95% DONE (Updated 1/16/13)

Update: Got all of my soft parts in and I took some pictures. Those included are:
Corcoran Jump boots
Swiss Henley Shirt (it is white but I will change that later, thinking brown, black or tan?)
Replica US paratrooper pants with leg ties (still deciding if I like the colors.)
My USMC Commando Sweater(maybe dye it black?)
Leather Suspenders with buckle adjusters
My Sam Browne Cavalry Officer Belt with shoulder strap
A couple pouches to carry my swag.

Not pictured: My Austrailian WWI puttees
My replica shearing Bane coat
My custom leather gauntlet

Also I changed the colors on the mask and went over it with Rub and Buff. I like this gold color better, I have to weather it again but that doesn't take long. The armor is slowcoming, I an messing with a couple ideas for the inner plates. How it is pictured is just me just placing materials that I have on it to get an idea of what looks decent...

Thanks Rinzlertron. I appreciate the kind words. It isn't the cleanest build but I am getting there slowly but surely.
