Stargate SG1 Serpent Guard Helmet

I've been motivated recently so after completing my Slimer, I started heavy into getting one of my Stargate SG1 projects completed. This weekend I completed the painting and assembly of the helmet itself, though still need to install lights for the eyes. I still need to work on my air brushing skills though, and had help with putting some shadow and dirt in the right places.

I'm working on a wooden stand that be used to display it, and will evolve over time as I complete a few other projects. I got a custom stain mixed to try to match as close as possible the furniture in my living room so hopefully will kind of help it blend in to a degree.

I hope to have a more complete picture of it on the display soon!

Compare with up close pic of a screen used one ...

Drop Dead ON! absolutely one of the best I've ever seen, and I love the Serpent Guard helmet, I feel I got a early Christmas present!

Thanks!

Yeah, the inside of mine is spikey too, some fiberglass that just wasn't layed right that sticks up here and there. I tried to trim some of it out, but it's still spikey afterward. What I did to help alleviate that though is take spray on rubber for tools and put several layers on the inside of the helmet. That encapsulates the fiberglass in a nice layer of rubber so it's not as likely to eviscerate me if I pick it up the wrong way.

Nice paint indeed! How did you display it (did you put it on a lamp)? It's Howard's sculpt, right?

Again very very nice! :)

Thank you! Yes, Howard's sculpt. For reference, here's how it came when I first got it.

It's going on a wooden stand I'm still working on and I'll post complete pics when that's done.

Just out of curiosity, what base silver did you end up using? I've got some Duplicolor GM Pewter spray-bomb cans, but I think it will be a little to much metallic flake in it.

I went to my local Autozone to get silver spray paint. It was a darker silver base coat that I then dusted with some Tamiya Bright Silver paint to bring it's shine up a little. I don't have the can of paint with me but can get the specific color when I'm back in the shop this weekend.

Zat, these were made and offered years ago by Dean (Dymerski). As far as I know he's never granted permission to make copies of them.

I have one of these, bought years ago in Ebay, still not painted.
Mine seems a rotocasted one - white resin, no evident fiber in it.

I've made some progress on my stand, though it's not yet complete. I finished a staining and clear coating it twice, with some light sanding between coats. I was trying to aim for stain that would match my furniture more, but seems like I ended up with a closer match to the floor which works too.

I'm still working on carving, cleaning and molding it up, but the Apophis symbol will be gold leafed and attached to the stand just below the helmet. I'm considering putting posts to hang my Zat from as well.

Ohh very nice. Looking forward to seeing the markings on it. Are you carving the whole way on the stand?

Well, I'm going to start with the Apophis symbol and see how it looks. I have a few of the other symbols from some screen used items that I might replicate as well, but I was more thinking just the Apophis one then the Zat gun under that.
