Stargate Horus moving helmet- update: tutorial done!

Re: Stargate Horus moving helmet- low budget -video

Yeah that is really cool! That's something I wish they would have done more of on the series with the helmets.

Re: Stargate Horus moving helmet- low budget -video

Thanks for the kind words everyone! So here's what it looks like finished. I just used silver and copper colored Krylon with pastels. I like building but I hate painting... I think overall it's not too bad for a low budget build using paper mache and foam.

I'll have the complete tutorial with new video up either tonight or tomorrow. :)

Man that is simply stunning, both the piece and animatronic! Really great work and thanks for the tutorial. May be in touch with you at some stage.

Re: Stargate Horus moving helmet- update: finished!

Thanks guys! I added some new pics. The lighting in my house is just terrible- it's really hard to take good photos of this thing.

Damn dude, that is too cool, it looks like it came right out of the film. Any plans on putting up a video of the movements?

There's a link to a video in the first post. I'll have a new video up soon.

Oh wow, go me with my lack of reading skills haha.

Re: Stargate Horus moving helmet- update: finished!

Just watched the video, that is beyond cool. Would you be able to slow down the movements though? I thought I remembered the helmets moving more slowly?

Oh that's pretty, Honus. You should be proud!

I think they are slower in the movie- the fan movement is different as well. I simplified the fan movement in order to keep cost down and reduce complexity. To make the fans work like the movie helmet would require some additional gears and another pivot mechanism- and it's getting crowded in there already. I'm working on adding some filtering to make the movements a bit slower and more natural but it may be a while in order to get it just right.

not too bad???? not.......... too............ bad????

Papier mache and foam. I am speechless :eek

Astonishing build, fenomenal finish ! :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Holy Hell this thing is beautiful. First completely done one I have seen. Hope to possibly see it at some conventions, maybe Dragon*Con if you can make it. But this does give me a idea for future pepakura jobs to just use paper mache on the outside and inside over fiberglass and use something like sheetrock putty to coat and sand.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I still need to edit the tutorial a bit, add diagrams, etc. But first I'm going to take a nap...
