All in all an extremely impressive collectible and an excellent tribute to Ralph McQuarrie whose work had such an influence on my favourite movie.

Good stuff. I'm not a fan of this incarnation, too severe an expression, but it's always good to see quality renditions. Great photo's too, I actually like the halogen blue shot, be interesting to see a movie Vader similarly painted, reminds me of Vader being Palpa-cuted in Jedi.

I agree this is a great looking helmet but lacks the character of what we know as Vader,I hope for the day that EFX release an original trilogy style Vader helmet.

It's nice to see some good photos of it finally. Nice work, Jez, and lucky guy to be able to preview it. Yes the rear dome shot really looks as if they took dimensional cues from the OT dome, which would explain the scaling, as that version of the McQuarrie mask is larger in relation to the dome than the Muir version.

It almost looks in your photos especially the mask only photo in right side view, that there are two different tones to the paint? The top of the head appears more grey than blue, for example.

Any interior shots of the leather? :cool

Ya this version of Vader certain appears more robotic...less like an alien face and more like a robot.

I think this version looks much more sinister than the "used" vader, it may not be the vader everyone knows but a very cool helmet anyway.
Cheers for sharing this Jez :thumbsup

Thanks for the comments guys.

Thomas - the helmt they sent over to me was the final prototype so disnt have the leather interior - just fiberglass I'm afraid. It seems to be one single paint finish but the way the light hits it really efffects the hue. I understand the final production version will be a little darker which will certainly look black in most lighing conditions.

The curvature of the eyes, especially the upper lids is quite similar to the bug-eyed look of CZ1 droid (if im not getting my droids mixed up) which IIRC started off as an inspiration of one of the early Vaders

Couple of more pics added
