Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

I think ATOC is a pretty poor film. Still love it though. Why? Cause it's Star Wars!:p
AotC came out when I was 9 years old. Looking back, the dialogue is piss poor, the CG is mediocre at best and video game quality at worst, and the only actually watchable part of the whole movie is the Battle of Geonosis. It's probably the SW movie I put lowest on the totem pole. However, when I was 9, I remember thinking it was the coolest thing I ever saw. The chase between Slave 1 and Obi-Wan blew my little mind. Anakin Skywalker displaying his prowess with the Force as his dark destiny became more apparent was so cool to me. Heck, I didn't even mind the terrible flirting dialogue on Naboo. But I remember loving the movie as a kid, and in the end that's what we have to remember a lot of these movies are for: They're for both the physical children, and the children inside ourselves. Reminds me of this comic:

Being a fan doesn't mean you have to like everything they release. I hope people love the new film. It's just not the story for me. That's all. I feel that some fans are willing to excuse certain aspects of the story because it has the name attached rather than being willing to acknowledge inherent flaws in the script. Though I wouldn't question someone's fandom regardless of their tastes on the new films. We wouldn't be participating in the discussion if we didn't care about the films.

If you don’t like a movie or series or episode after you watched it, that’s one thing. But you got people here bashing a movie no one has seen or really know anything about.

I like the story, I think it would have been much better with a director that could give the actors better direction.

Fair enough. But based on what came before, I'd say it's a fair assumption that it may be a let down. I hope to be proven wrong. I really do. Though I suspect most of us have made up our minds one way another. Whether for good or ill.

I'm a big fan of The Beatles,....I have multiple copies of all their albums,...I can't really decide on what album or song is my favourite.

I have all John Lennon albums,...most tracks are very good,....I've some McCartney, Harrison & Starr stuff

The Beatle stuff is amazing, a collaboration of creative people, artists & technicians,....but the solo stuff just isn't the same,...some magic, but not the same

Star Wars, to me is exactly the same, SW(ANH) & ESB were that collaborative Beatles period,....RotJ less so,....the PT, is like the John Lennon solo stuff,....some magic

Rogue One & Han Solo films are the McCartney, Harrison & Starr solo material

The ST is Oasis

Attack of the Clones is the worst Star Wars movie ever made, and its only redeeming quality was Ben Burtt's sound design for the seismic charges.

There, I said it.

I'm always torn on this. On the one hand, I'm glad you liked it. It's hard enough to find things that make you happy and if you had one, that's great! Never let old goats like me ruin that for you even a little bit!

Also, I'm truly glad that those movies brought so many new fans in. There's absolutely NO question about it, your generation of fans made the fandom bigger, richer, and better than it was. We used to be borderline outcast nerds, you guys made it WAY more socially acceptable to love this franchise as much as we do.

On the other hand though...I hate the "It's for kids" excuse. Without even trying I can probably name 100 "kids" movies that I adore and think are works of art. I love great kids movies. Always have, hopefully always will.

I hate the implication that just because it's a kids movie it's OK for it to suck. Quite a few kids movies are magnificent works of art.

Well, you know, they gotta pick up the baton of botching spoilers they started with E1 and putting the soundtrack out a month+ early with the track 'death of qui-gonn'...
The soundtrack?
Heck, when they had that whole "Force Friday" that year (and as I recall for the subsequent films as well) they released the novelizations so if you were a fast reader...

I think you may have misinterpreted what I said. I didn't mean that it's literally for kids and that excuses the poor quality. I actually agree with you. Just because something is for kids doesn't mean it has to be crap. What I meant is that Star Wars is meant to bring out the kid in us, whether we're actually children, or just kids at heart. Star Wars is for all ages, but they're that kind of movie you watch and you remember everything you loved about being a kid.

I couldn't agree more!

I was in college when the first Star Wars film released, IMO it is still the finest in the franchise. I still look forward to the new films, they have great moments and WTF moments, just as the other OT/PT films did.
As a person watching the films they are entertaining, as a builder I wish they had gone with the cooler design proposals instead of the ones on the screen- they are just not things I want to build (with only a couple exceptions).

I remember the book and thought putting it out early was stupid, but everything was put out early. You COULD buy the book or even read the summary on the back without being spoiled. You just look at the case of the soundtrack and it's spoiled. You can't accidentally read the book to get something spoiled...

It's not star wars, but I can remember when Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince came out (the book) and the AP had an article in the local paper that spoiled a huge part of that in the first @#$%ing sentence of the article. Who puts that in the first paragraph of a REVIEW?

There are some really stupid ad execs and designers out there. To this day i think it's stupid from a film perspective to release the toys one or, in the case of SW now, 3-4 months before the movie.

Wasn't 'Star Wars' the first film to get toys released before the film?
