As a HUGE r2 fan, this is where the ST hints me below the belt.. R2 was been so neglected...

Ep7 I felt totally ripped off, but liked him shutting down because he lost his friend and was using all he resources to debug himself and find the maps he stole from the Death Star

Ep8 I liked how he “changed Luke’s mind” with the leia hologram.. but that was it for r2..

Why couldn’t we see him watch Rey and hang out with Luke in the huts... I know I know there’s 300 steps to climb to get up there. But r2 loves Luke so much he would have climbed each step to see his old friend..

Just totally wasted.. we have footage of the crew carrying the r2 2leg mod suit up the rocks so there had to be scenes filmed with r2 up there with them..

R2 was also at the nun bird party but that was also cut

And now this trailer we don’t see him at all, and nothing on the poster either..

I’ve grown to really despise bb8... and why bring this lamp droid in.. have bb8 and r2 unit and tag team 3po.. could you imagine 2 of them harassing him at once? It would be classic!

I seriously hope r2 gets alittle more respect this time around

Another possibility, with Luke being used as the myth to engender hope and resistance to the FO, Kylo could also go public with the fact that he is a Skywalker as well. The rise could be his rise to power/dominance over the galaxy...and it could still end with her taking the name to restore it.

I think Luke will be coming back to life... in a physical way. A la the Search for Spock!

I think it would sell the idea that it's up to Rey if Luke stayed dead. Like Ben Kenobi to Luke in Jedi. He's there to impart wisdom or exposition to the protagonist.

Having characters come back constantly undercuts the dramatic tension of their death if they do it all the time. Just like anything that's overdone it loses its appeal. Used sparingly it has great punch.

my only real nit to pick is that I was hoping Rey would actually build her own saber instead of just repair Luke's. Not a big thing...

So obviously she's no RPF member with impossible building skills but seems to love vintage collectibles and has some nifty restoration skills.

I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, so I'm just going by what is shown in the trailer.

Even if she doesn't build her own, it's not like it's going to ruin the movie for me or anything. But I'm glad to hear they are at least keeping the speculation alive that she will.

I know building the lightsaber is a big year for the Jedi. But I think the only hard part and Jedi exclusive thing is using the force to line up the crystal.

With the broken flex in the shape it is, I give her enough credit repairing it and that passes the test for me

OMG! This trailer is amaze-balls! JJ has completely restored the franchise with nothing but a teaser. I plan on watching this until my eyes bleed. Star Wars is back baby!!

Okay, enough sarcasm.
There's no way for me to judge the movie off this teaser but it was just "meh" for me.
The title and Palpatine's laugh give me a small glimmer of hope that we'll see my prequel theory on screen.
The Jedi were fools following a made up prophecy by the sith about the"chosen one". Palpatine impregnated shmi Skywalker and used the force to wipe the event from her mind (thus Anakin's high Midichlorian count). After he turned his own kid to the darkside he went after his grandson Luke. Now we'll find out he really had learned the secret of cheating death but kept it to himself. The Skywalker rising that the title refers to is Grandpa Palpy, the original Skywalker...back for revenge!

I also want to see more Artoo. Threpio has a bigger role in this one it seems. Probably a bigger role than the last two. But yeah, Artoo is iconic, and has always been one of the main characters in the series.

This being more of a direct sequel to TFA would be fine with me. It looks much better than TLJ based on the teaser, but I'm still withholding judgment and stating skeptical. I just want JJ to be able to close out the trilogy properly. No loose ends, no more mystery boxes. Answer the questions, tie off the loose ends, and end it all on a positive note that does everyone justice.

I totally agree with you Halliwax

R2 is an integral part of the OT & PT in every film he plays a part in saving the lives of those around him, its a gross misunderstanding of those in charge at the minute,...its kind of sad really,...I also am starting to despise bb8 & scratching my head why they need to add this new lamp droid

I'm glad that they are using 3PO more in this movie instead of the cameos he had been given,...but you can't have Laurel without Hardy

The Vader comic has already kinda sorta made it canon that Palpatine is Anakin's "father. Not in the physical sense, but it would seem that he was the one that influenced midi-chlorians to create Anakin.
