Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

What's this "cammo" anyway?

One guy with a big orange ship in the midst of all that is a big giant 'hey look at me!' thing.
I heard they phased out the use of the M-14 in the US military for that very reason. If everyone is carrying what looks like an M16, regardless of variant, they are all equal targets to a sniper. If one stands out as an officer, they’re a higher target. Same logic applies here. Why paint a target on your back simply to sell a toy? The X-Wing is already a cool design; we don’t need “Star Wars Resistance” baby’s first paint job applied here.

They're still in the position of the movies, or more accurately, the name of the movies,, sells the toys. vendors pay through the nose for the licenses to make the products. The prequels turned a profit before a single scene was shot when they sold product rights for 1B. They're not putting that in the press for these, but i guarantee they were likely in the same boat, a profit before a single scene was shot. For crying out loud, there's star wars makeup, and nissan did a #$%^ing custom car for rogue 1. Those companies aren't dictating #$&@, they're paying through the nose assuming they'll profit on the name and slapping Star Wars on their prodcuts.

They assumed too much with the tie in products for 'The Phantom Menace', being the very fist film to release after so many years of having Star Wars a money making icon. Companies right and left jumped on that bandwagon, slathering the film images and themes on whatever crap they could, rubbing their hands in anticipation. The local Toys-R-US had a thirty by thirty pace reserved for this, covered in displays and a giant five foot Falcon hanging from the ceiling overhead.
It didn't go well for them
After that debacle the licensed companies became very conservative with what they release and there was almost nothing for the next couple of films.

Believe it or not, there was so little Star Wars stuff out there in 1977, stuff like this was actually highly anticipated. I remember watching it. Just to see the stormtrooper outfits was a huge kick. Remember, this was even before the Holiday Special and there were no action figures available yet.

Oh, how things have changed.

No one expected Star Wars to be very popular and it caught them by surprise, I think that is why George was able to secure the merchandising rights as part of his agreement. IIRC the profits from the merchandising alone was able to fund the next film.

I had no problem with Rose as a character. In a better written film she wouldn't have gone off to find the code breaker. She would have been the code breaker. That would have eliminated the DJ character and the whole side trip to Canto Bites.

She did seem bright enough. And with Finn's knowledge of First Order systems and procedures. That would have made far more sense.
