Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

View attachment 1008998

stop. blaming. Disney. They are not making the new Star Wars. Lucasfilm is. So please please PLEASE... stop it.

It's Disney who is the driving force behind Marvel & LFL....both were/are producing films at a very fast rate,....the difference between them is one has Kevin Feige at the helm the other doesn't

Bob Iger was the man who admitted that Disney went in too fast & called a 'slowdown' on production

Bob Iger Finally Confirms Disney Is Making Fewer Star Wars Movies

"the lack of a complete structure for this thing,"

Interesting that now, at the end, do we finally get the truth. There were a number of people saying they clearly had a complete structure. It was clear from 8 they did not.

It seems inexcusable that LFL would embark on a supposed 'final trilogy' without a complete structure for the thing. Inexcusable and stunningly unbelievable.

Honestly chaps, does it really matter if it’s Disney, LFL, George, Kathleen Kennedy, Bob Iger, Lores Kastance, etc. who makes decisions that we like or not? There’s new ownership of the brand and LFL, can we just call it “new management” and be done with it?

You honestly think Disney doesn't have a ton of influence in these movies? Seriously? They're paying the bills, they aren't just handing Lucasfilm a blank check and putting out whatever they decide to turn in. It's like saying Disney has no influence over the Marvel movies. Not a chance.

Then wouldn't they be credited as (a) producer(s)?

I stand by what I said. There is a huuuuuge difference between Disney telling Lucasfilm to start cranking out movies... and Disney making said movies (or even dictating any content therein).

Man, can you imagine if Disney hadn't been impatient and let Lucasfilm plot their own way forward without pressure? Clone Wars could've finished out its intended run, the Story Group could have figured out what the structure of the new films should be, the beginnings of a sense of characters and content, driven -- as in the history we got -- by George's treatments, but actually thought through... A release schedule that kept the traditional three-year gap (at least for the saga films)...

The new films have a definite rushed feel about them- the ship designs look like the first doodles before the design team really gets inspired. A lot of the story problems could have been hashed out in the writer's room before a single word was spoken.

Oh well, all of this is pointless- it is what it is and tomorrow we shall see what they have come up with next...

The plan was to have three different filmmakers each make one episode, each bringing their own unique spin. But they failed to recognize that Jar Jar Abrams is a hack-fraud and Ruin Johnson is a troll who wants half of his audience to hate the film.

Fun fact: it was George's idea to do a Solo film.

StarWars.com: As someone who’s obviously played such a part of writing the character over the years, had you — just in your head — kicked around ideas about what his origin might have been?

Lawrence Kasdan: No. Never. What happened is, in November 2012, I was in Colorado and Kathy [Kennedy] called me. She said “Look, we’re going to do some new Star Wars movies, and would you come up and talk to me and George about it?” I said, “I don’t know. I feel like I’ve done my Star Wars movies.” I had done two by then. She said, “Just come up. We’d really appreciate it and let’s have a talk.” I said, “All right.”........So that was in 1980. Now in 2012, he’s saying, “Will you come up and have a meeting.” With Kathy, who I had been friends with for 40 years, and so I went up and we talked and it was great to be back at the ranch. They said, “We want to do” — there’s no Disney in this conversation yet — and they said, “We want to revive the franchise and we’ve got some ideas.” And they had a bunch of ideas that George had written out very briefly. I said “Well, I don’t think so,” and they said Michael Arndt has been hired to write the next Star Wars. I said, “Well, that sounds great. He’s really talented.” And then they said, “You know, one of the ideas would be to do just a movie about Han,” and I suddenly perked up, because that was the only thing that interested me. I didn’t want to do a sequel. I wouldn’t have written the next one, normally. I just thought I had done it. But to do something with Han, who I found was the most interesting and fun character in the whole deal, and to be able to be free and make whatever kind of story I wanted about Han, well, that was irresistible to me. And I say, “Well, that does interest me.”

Wait, so you're essentially saying Kennedy takes her cues from George Lucas and Disney board of execs? No wonder the ST is what it is :D

Yet it's some of the same ILM people working on the Marvel films, and they're cranking out, what, 3 a year now? Just go to ILM's website, Star Wars isn't all they do, they currently have 8 films on their In Production page.

I am not referring the quality of the SFX but the overall story and designs in the film. ILM does what people creating the films tell them to do. ILM will faithfully create a flying brick and do their best to make that brick look great on screen but it is the people who designed that brick that are rushing things it seems to me.

Still the same guys. The ILM not only does the SFX and VFX, they designs ships, locations, characters, etc. For Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, DC, Transformers, Kong.....and on the list goes.

No that would be the art department / production design. ILM may tweak those designs a bit but they aren't the ones who initially design.

But they're not directing the film. They're not writing it. That's where the problems come from.
