Yeah. No real details, but the approximate age of the actor in the flashback implies the emperor conceived his son well after becoming emperor, which is grody.

Now there’s a spin-off movie that is dying to be made...”The Romance of Harold Q. Palpatine: A Star Wars Story”

He was, after all, chosen as Imperial People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for nearly two decades...

“I used the powers of the Darkside to purchase these flowers for you. Now my plan for you and I to fall in love and ‘go steady’ is COMPLETE (cackle, cackle)!! It is unavoidable. It is your destiny. Oh...I’m afraid...that I’ve already made it official on Instagram.”

BTW, how come the descendants of Palpatine don’t have his monster mash face?

I want to know if the son was alive during Rotj...

Was his son conceived naturally or was he doing anakin experiments over again and created life that way..

Don’t know who would find RoTJ paps sexy enough to touch him..

Saw it last night, and thought it was great. A perfect film? Heck no, but what is? Even ANH had a few issues IMO. (And no, before anyone freaks out and misreads this, no. I’m not saying TROS is on par with ANH.)

I found it to be a satisfying conclusion to a flawed trilogy. I think it’s clear now, if it wasn’t before, that the whole way that these movies were created was a mistake, as far as different directors coming in and no clear 3 part arc to the story being figured out beforehand.

As someone who liked TLJ but found it problematic in a number of ways, I liked that this film attempted to rectify some of the dumber decisions Rian made in the previous film. But some things aren’t as easily undone.

Personally, I can say that this is the least I’ve known about any of these Disney movies prior to release, and I enjoyed being surprised by things. It’s also been nice to be away from all the forum discussions pre-release, because, frankly (no offense to any here) none of it is all that interesting to me. It was good to go into TROS with my own preconceptions, and not someone else’s. And because of that time away I’m also feeling less interested in discussions, post-release, especially when the general tone here seems much the same as it was post-TFA, or post-TLJ, in varying degrees.

All I can say is that I hope those who were not fans of this new trilogy get something they enjoy in the future, or at the very least that they remember what made them fans in the first place, and embrace that.

edit: ahhh and I found it kinda hilarious that the prop EFX is currently peddling from this movie is the “Dark Rey” lightsaber that showed up for about 5 seconds and had close to zero relevance to anything. $1600 for that?!

Well, Rey's parents looked like they were in their early 30's in the flashback. If the flashback took place approximately 20 years post Rotj then he must have been born prior to ANH but post Rots.

The more I think on this movie, and read some reviews, the more I really do question things that happen in it. Over all I do like it and the characters, but the things they do and over all main theme just doesn't make a lot of sense.
There was completely zero evidence that Palpatine ever had any type of romantic relationship in the other films, so that made it so out of the blue.
Guess this just goes to show, that if you plan on doing a trilogy, it really helps to have a main story outline for ALL 3 of them.

I'm thinking it was more of a concubine kinda thing... I doubt he had a romantic relationship. He ruled the universe...Im sure he had a harem.

I loved it. My eight year old son loved it. It made me feel things. I’m not letting the internet ruin this one for me. :)

Agreed. I saw it with my 12 year-old daughter. Seeing her leaned forward, clapping and cheering throughout made a movie I really enjoyed that much better.

You don't have to buy it, I'm just laying out how I interpreted the information in the film. You do you.

I interpreted it the same way. I don't see how there's any other way to interpret it.

I have a question:

After Kylo is redeemed by Han and becomes Ben on the Endor Death Star, does Adam Driver ever speak any lines again during the movie?

I do not recall him saying anything during the final boss battle.

Did anyone else have clapping in their theater when Ben threw his saber? That was a cool experience.

No clapping or cheering at the 7:00 pm show at any point during the movie.

Maybe two-three people clapped at end but when no one else joined in then they quickly stopped.

Alright, I enjoyed the movie even though the spoilers made their way to me because of idiots on YouTube comments.

The film is a fantastic finale to the trilogy but not to the Skywalker saga. If they dropped the whole end to the Skywalker saga BS I think the film would be received a hell of a lot better. How can you end a 9 saga film with only one of the characters that existed in 1-6? So Anakin does not matter to the Skywalker saga? His legacy is just a joke to Disney? His redemption ment nothing? He is the most popular SW character and my most favorite fictional character of all time(well when he was Vader) and they just leave him out like he couldn't do anything to satisfy a good Skywalker closure.

With that sad it was a great wrap up to the characters introduced in this trilogy. I enjoyed it so. I felt Ian Mcdirmaid's performance was exceptional as he is a fantastic actor. And the visuals inside that sith temple were some of the best in the entire saga and felt extremely like I was watching a Star Wars film. Visually I give the film 10/10.

The begining and middle felt a bit jumpy with the story.........go here, then we have to go here, to find this and so forth..but once the wayfinder(no idea why the Holocrons were called wayfinders) aspect wrapped up it went smoother.

I found it funny when Rey was about to give up and pull a Luke and go into hiding and was about to destroy the family lightsaber and Luke saves it. To me that is the biggest slap in the face to Rian Johnson. This film let us know JJ hated TLJ. I this movie suffered a lot because of TLJ.

There still was one huge surprise for me, seeing Han Solo even though it's just Kylo speaking to his mind. I was shocked that Ford came back to do that. I thought with the death in VII he was completely done. The scene played out really well and helped develope Ben's redemption.

But watching this film and seeing the Snoke copies and Palpatine saying "I have been dead before" make me think Palpatine is a clone. I like to think in ROTJ they killed the real palps and actually defeated him for real but cloning was his back up plan.

Overall I give it a 7/10

That pretty much sums up my take. I unabashedly love it for what it is. Fully agree about the approach they took of not plotting the whole thing out first being a mistake. As much as I've enjoyed this trilogy, it definitely suffered from that. Still, I enjoyed it. I can hold the OT as a self-contained story, and this as a sort of "Elseworlds" continuation. I love how fun it's been to enjoy the unfolding of this story with my daughter, and it's something I know we'll be revisiting together for years to come.

More on the TLJ Retconning.

This film almost tries to ignore TLJ and JJ wasn't afraid to show his hate for it and I applaud him for that. TLJ nearly destroyed the trilogy. What was Rian thinking? TLJ to me felt like screw JJ and screw the fans I'm making this my own and to bad if it doesn't continue the story from TFA and you fans hate it, deal with it. It's sad Kennedy allowed that! TLJ stalled the trilogy big time and wasted a film Disney couldn't afford to waste to begin with. We are so attached to the franchise that Disney has zero room to screw anything up but they did.

JJ tried his hardest to patch the wound and it shows. To me it felt like he tried to deliver a film that could potentially appeal to the fans unlike Rian did.

Also, I've heard in several breakdown video's I've watched people are asking when did Palpatine have time to have a son.

Unless I missed it couldn't Palpatine have used to Force to create Rey or create life in Reys's parents like he did with Anakin/Shmi ?
