My goodness, some people in here seem to really enjoy getting dramatic about all this, on both sides...

I had hopes that maybe this time around we might be able to bring the discussion to something a little more complex than the “It’s good, I enjoyed it!” “No, it’s the worst and it ruined my childhood!” kind of nonsense, but here we are again...

I suppose it is better than the guy who used to rant endlessly about “low SWIQ movies!” and his counterpart... may they Rest In Peace.

Yep, we had 20 odd pages of peaceful conversation for & against.....now it's back to name calling

I think there are people who live for this sort of thing

I like the way Mike calls Lucas's SW,....'But in real Star Wars'

Brilliant

To be fair “Real Star Wars” is the OT for him...
This episode was kinda underwhelming ESPECIALLY that it was 70 mins...maybe I was just sleepy. But I do differ with them on “you just have to make things up at the last minute”. I still think that JJ tried to bend the whole thing back to where it was going originally instead of making all this up only based on how 7 and 8 turned out.

Seen it three times and really like it.

There are a few plot holes/questions:

1. Kylo's ship crashes after Rey cuts off the wing, but he later has the ship in-tact with the wayfinder in it and it is undamaged.
2. What causes those Star Destroyers on Endor and Jakku to suddenly catch fire and fall to the planet?

The bigger questions:
1. Is the Emperor we see a clone who's body the dying Emperor from Endor took over?
2. Were all of the crews of the Star Destroyers that came out of the ground full of Imperial crew members?

None of these things ruin the movie for me.

I wondered about the TIE (the red-accented interceptor Rey later destroys,) but I believe it’s just a “standard” special forces variant first order tie interceptor. I don’t think it’s unique to Kylo like the one he had in Last Jedi was (TIE silencer).

Apparently the ships being destroyed at all the callback locations was just result of people rising up everywhere. Not shown very clearly, and it gave the impression of it all occurring simultaneously across the galaxy, which is dumb.

No idea about the other two questions...

Gotta love click-bait headlines that fuel cherry pickers.

I actually like JJ's response in this: People who don't like it? They're right. People who do like it? They're right, too. We weren't going to please everyone.

Is a force dyad a concept pulled from the EU?
Yeah, a couple of times. It was in the KOTOR (Revan) and for some reason I'm thinking there was something later with one... unless I'm getting confused.
The EU was pretty messy and, frankly, that was one of the dodgier concepts in my opinion. I wish they'd left that one in "legends" continuity.

There were a few times when that Sith crowd ALMOST started singing Duel of the Fates and then stopped.. i thought it would have been a cool connection if they had.

Did anyone notice if spirit Luke had a robot/gloved hand?

I thought the Force dyad was from Clone Wars series, The brother and sister that were complete embodiments of the Light and Dark side of the Force. Am I recalling that correctly or have I lost my mind (as I suspect :D)?

Those episodes were actually some of my least favorites from the Clone Wars....

People keep asking what I think of the new trilogy as a whole...

I just keep saying

I will let you know when James Gunn releases his third...

Cuz that is my adult Star Wars... these are fun, but they in no way get me excited like Starlord, Groot, Drax, Rocket, Gamora and Mantis. Not even close.

You're cherry picking to suit your narrative.

Hollywood has historically edited films for other regions for all manner of reasons, including to fit social / religious norms. Violence has been toned down in some films to fit cultures that don't accept it as much as the US does. Toy Story 2 completely redid a motivational speech scene in front of an American Flag to a "globe" for international markets -- intentionally breaking the obvious Patton spoof -- just because they felt the change was more inclusive to non-Americans.

But in the case of Star Wars, the kiss scene was removed in the Singapore market because their ratings code would have then made the film the equivalent of R rated in that market (21 and over, there). So the scene wasn't included and then removed as arbitrarily as your comment makes it seem. It was the result of facing a government, society, and ratings board FAR more conservative than the one here.

You say I cherry picked to fit my narrative and I say you only proved my point. What a lame cop out to make such a grand statement to one audience and not have the resignation to do it for another instead of just staying out of it altogether. So U.S. LGBQT people deserve representation but not the Singapore ones for "reasons". Sure. Oh, Disney dont make R rated films, how convenient.

At the end of the day we have to remember these are movies and I'd argue that we must remember that we're debating ideas. There's nothing inherently wrong with that.
Its only a problem with one person (Scarecrow Joe ) that doesnt have a problem with posting that some here didn't like the film just to spite themselves and others and that they probably did like the film but couldnt handle having their expectations subverted and feigned not liking it or posting memes saying nobody cares what you think. Smacks a little like Disney's commitment to progression and inclusivity, all for it but conditionally.

Oh, man...

I just accidentally stumbled across an online discussion between a number of distraught Reylos. I take it all back. The discourse here could be so, so much worse. This place feels like a safe refuge from..... that.

That's odd, I'm a Reylo, and I was perfectly satisfied.

Are you really that dense? Yes, reasons, and very valid ones. When a film like this goes worldwide it needs to address all those issues depending on how the culture is in each individual country or region. Singapore should decide, as a whole, how they stand regarding that issue. That's not a job or obligation of neither Star Wars as a franchise or Disney. You seem to be grasping desperately to have something to criticize about this movie. That has been my whole argument against this toxic, absurd hate against anything Disney. There are a LOT of valid points against the flaws these ST movies have but grabbing that LGBQT argument by its hairs is not one. You better inform yourself a bit more about how different movies are promoted in different places.

Are you questioning my IQ? How Dare You!!!!!
LOL. Just go and see what the actual LGBQT community has been saying online about this very issue, they are the only people that matter in this discussion. I am not the only one to comment on this issue, those terrible people at Red Letter Media addressed the same subject hours after I did in front of an eventual audience of around 2 million people. I know exactly how different movies are promoted and more importantly presented in different place`s, guess what?...so does Disney.
Get this straight, I am not questioning whether or not such subject matter should be included in the movie, I am questioning the veracity of the voice behind it, you in your childish rage are completely missing the entire point. I dont need to grasp desperately to criticize this movie, its such a ***** show they present themselves.
