Saw it last night. Wanted so badly to love this movie. I loved The Last Jedi, which seems to be an unpopular opinion around here but there it is. I walked out of the theater after watching TLJ just blown away. Walking out after Rise I was just....meh. It felt ridiculously rushed, probably due to the perceived need to undo TLJ. So much forced feeling fan service. Some scenes that were supposed to be emotional elicited laughs in the theatre, like the kiss and then Ben just keeling over. It was almost Python-esque. That being said, there was great stuff too. Babu Frik was great. The banter between the main characters was more natural and had more chemistry. Billy Dee was having a great time and it showed. And who didnt get a wet eye at "Dad". I dont know, maybe I just need to give it another viewing.

Just saw it and it was a very enjoyable and satisfying film. Think they tied up the story well and filled the gaps left by TLJ. A much better film than TLJ. My favorite films from the whole saga would be: Empire Strikes Back and Rogue One tied in the first place, then ANH, followed by ROTJ. Next would be TROS, ROTS, TPM, AOTC, Solo ASWH and lastly TLJ.

I loved the John Williams cameo.

Just got back from seeing with my wife. We both enjoyed it. Not the best Star Wars film by any stretch of the imagination. Nor the worst either. But it was satisfying for me.

Couple of things I just want to mention.

Babu is adorable.

The lightsaber fight where they are in two different locations was awesome.

Hyperspace skipping rules.

Love the line about the Holdo maneuver.

Loved hearing all those Jedi. I heard, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Anakin, Qui-Gon, Mace. Anyone I miss?

Confirmation that Palpatine is who Ben was talking to in TFA.

Palpatine says that Rey and Ben aren't the first dyad. Revan and Bastilla??????(Oh btw the Visual Dictionary just made Revan's name canon. Apparently the Sith Troopers units are named after long gone Sith Lords)

Can you explain the whole dyad thing

I thought he said diode lol

So if the Holdo maneuver was just a 1/1,000,000 chance of working.... what would've happened if it just.. ya know... didn't work?? Is Holdo just "Welp, guess all my friends are dead... I'm outta this joint!" ?

End Game was so perfectly paced...

I wonder if some of my issues would have been fixed if they had the 3 hours...

I don’t WANT a three hour movie, cuz I think End Game is a fluke... But the idea of some breathing room is nice...

End Game had to do a lot as well,

- intro killing thanos
- setup world post thanos
- ant man returns with idea
- tony turns down helping
- successful testing and reuniting
- all the collecting of the stones... all 6 in 3 different timelines
- combining and snapping back
- Final battle
- funeral

and they still got in a million quiet moments to pull at heart strings.

But you try and take 40 minutes out of that movie and they are going to chop the quiet long moments first.

And maybe thenEnd Gamewould’ve then felt to me like this flick... just rushing rushing rushing... trying to wrap it all up.

40 minutes is a lot of time.

a whole previous 8th movie run time would have been even better!

So if the Holdo maneuver was just a 1/1,000,000 chance of working.... what would've happened if it just.. ya know... didn't work?? Is Holdo just "Welp, guess all my friends are dead... I'm outta this joint!" ?

I think it was like threepio with the odds... if it doesn’t work or if she doesn’t do it, dies anyway

Saw it for the second time tonight.

Still my favorite of the three. Could change upon further viewing, but I'm not that interested in deconstructing or proving anything. Overall the Triogy for me was a failure, I was just looking to be entertained. The movie did that.

Strange to hear that people laughed at the kiss? Maybe there were more girls in my audiences. But no laughing. Both theaters I went to were packed, save for the first 3 rows, which shouldn't exist anyhiw.

Audience applauded both showings, and tearful eyes were commonplace. Humor hit well with the crowds too.

For me:
Hyperspace skipping was a little over the top.

Some of the banter seemed really shallow, like Bart & Lisa arguing on the Simpsons. I appreciate they tried to create a dynamic working relationship between the main three, and on the surface I buy it. But it felt a little hollow.

Was strange that Leia waited for Ben before dematerializing.

The kiss sorta takes away from Rey's "independence"...

Thought Driver killed it. Totally bought in to his character.

Dunno... He didn't have a lot to work with and even less time. Not sure it could of been better.

Was JJ the voice for the Dio droid?

The yellow saber has been canon since The Clone Wars.

Yellow lightsabers have been canon since 1978... ;)

I absolutely loved it. Was thrilled from beginning to end, nonstop. It had everything "feel-wise" that was lacking from the first 2 movies.

Are there things to overthink? Sure! If you want to go down that path, hell, I'll pave even more braincramps for ya:

Palpatine created Snoke. Snoke was obviously very powerful. Why did he need anyone else, if only two there can be?

Palpatine has a million ships with Death Star capabilities. What is he waiting for?

What is the point of the First Order?

If you can clone a Sith, why not clone a MILLION more?

How is there "balance" in the Force if the Dark side is eliminated?

What is it with these movies that allows matter to be transferred with the Force?

Force ghosts can do everything mortals can do, including using the Force and catching objects. Uhhhh….so, are they dead or what?

Leia was a Jedi after all, I think?

Kylo Ren never was a Sith Lord. He was never a Jedi. He was always in "training" until he killed Snoke, I guess.

What the hell were the Knights of Ren, and what good were they? Why did Kylo stop running his little gang?

If you can use the Force to save people from dying, isn't that a Sith thing? I mean, that's how Palpatine lured Anakin to the Dark....so, why is it ok for Rey, Kylo, and Leia to do that?

If Jedi ghosts can handle objects like Luke did when he caught the Graflex, why can't they fight in real life?

What is the meaning of it all????????

A lot of the stuff not related specifically to this movie do make sense.

Balance to the force means the removal of the dark side, not a balance of light and dark as stated by FPJ. The elimination of Palpatine and Vader was bringing balance (Anakin’s destiny) as was the defeat of Palpatine at the end I guess.

Everything else are critical problems brought up in this movie or this trilogy that also make the previous movie’s nonsense in the process though.

Why didn’t Yoda and Obi Wan fight Vader as force ghosts?

Why didn’t force ghosts intervene in order 66.

What is the point of the one? Is Rey the one? Is the one a generation thing?

I just watched Rise of Skywalker.

It was a movie.

It wasn't great. It wasn't awful.

It was a movie.

Stuff happened and then it ended.

I don't know if it's the writing or acting or both but neither Boyega nor Isaacs evolved one bit. They were the same two guys from the first film. We don't learn anything more about them. Their relationship didn't change. They didn't even have memorable character moments. Stuff happened and then it ended.

For a leader, Po isn't very inspirational nor particularly courageous. He gives one of the weakest inspirational speeches I've ever heard and has to share the moment with Fin. When the chips are down does Po rally the troops or spit in the face of danger? No. He apologizes to his men and says, "I thought we had a chance." Stuff happened and then it ended.

I never thought Rey was a Mary Sue and I defended that position - but then she held back a transport craft in full thrust for several minutes. I'd rather forget that ever happened.

Multiple callbacks were well done but left me uninspired. In a better movie they would have been perfect.

I still hate Ewoks.

How did Lando get all those people together on such short notice? Wasn't the rebellion having trouble getting support? Do we assume that Lando was just more inspiring? they showed none of that on the screen. I might have missed something because my attention drifted off several times.

Lando must have called up several thousand ships. Even Dr. Strange in Endgame who had teleportation couldn't call up as many people. Speaking of which, seeing the falling Star Destroyers also reminded me of Endgame.

I can't think of a single action or comic standout moment. Even The Last Jedi had the hyperspace kamikaze scene which was stunning or the battle on the red planet which was visually powerful. I recall many shots from The Last Jedi being gorgeously composed. I can't think of a single memorable shot in RoS.

Carrie Fisher was inserted with amazing technical skill. I can't help but think it was her death that really wrecked the trilogy. I get the sense they had planned for TFA to have been Han's farewell, TLJ to have been Luke's farewell and RoS to have been Leia's farewell. But Fisher's tragic death really threw a wrench into things. Instead of having Leia being the heart of the film we are left with a film with no heart. In the end I was watching a bunch of characters I didn't care much about hugging and kissing. And then it ended.
