Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I have no words for how silly that sounds...
Truthfully, creatures have never really worked well in star wars.

The rancor was probably the best. But the space slug, rathtars and the fish in epi 1 all kinds felt like a distraction

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I want to see a live-action (i.e., photoreal CG) version of a Loth-cat. :) But we've had horses in Star Wars since the Ewok movies. Maybe they're native to Endor, since we haven't seen them elsewhere, or maybe they're universal like rancors. *shrug* All told, I'm not fussed by mammals and birds. Can't all be mynocks or dewbacks. :p

No way! You always have such a positive outlook though. This is such a shock.

I expect more from my movies than just a two hour waste away of time.

i need something a bit more.most of the movies this summer i have no desire to ever see again.

make something good, i will praise it.

not that anyone here takes notice....

NeilT, what movies do you hold in high regard? I know what stuff you hate, but what do you like, and consider more than just a "waste of time". Which is, for all intents and purposes what movies are in the first place.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

anything i plan on rewatching again cause i enjoy it so much.

Ant Man I really like.

Finding Dory.

Captain America 1

most of the stuff these days that i find i enjoy happens to be marvel work.

everything else that I never need bother with again?

ID4 2.
Bay Turtles.
Nu Trek

Yet, I'll enjoy the original independance Day time and time again in all it's glorius cheese.
I'll rewatch MST3K the Movie any day over ever having the need to see Batman Versus Superman again.

There needs to be not only a well done movie for me, but there needs to be something 'more' to prove that the film makers are having fun doing it and are doing it more for just a paycheck. and most importantly, that they 'GET' what they are working on and have the freedom to do just that without and corporate nits involved.

What's odd about the Force Awakens, the 'fun' element had the potential to be there. but once the nostalgia where's off....i don't know. i never really had a desire to see it again.
Same goes for R1. i've seen all the visuals before. the repeated lines i can see on DVD any time. same goes for repeated visuals and character jokes.

there just doesn't seem to be as much effort put into nu star wars. it's all playing it safe so far to keep the investment.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I want great films like ESB, Brazil, Bladerunner, spirited away, das Boot and kill Bill.

That's what I want

What is this Nu Star Wars you speak of? Is "nu" the cool way to write "new"?

I don't know about you, but I got 3 kids who love Star Wars and they help me view the films through a child's eyes. That said, I enjoyed R1 (darker themed) more and they enjoyed TFA more.

R1 was not playing it safe. It was,a huge risk by Disney to make a non-trilogy, dark, PG-13 film that has no princesses and cute robots or fuzzy bears. Compare that with TFA where they played it safe, a soft reboot if you will.

There is no such thing as not liking Finding Dory, and Ant Man. This were just good movies.

I was shearly disappointed with TFA last year, but watching Rogue One was actually redeeming and made up for my aggravation last Christmas.

Not sure HOW it started, but I first saw it being referenced with star trek as a way to diferentiate between the two universes. I kind of liked it so it stuck with me.

just cause a movie is dark doesn't make it good.

I put my review in the proper thread, so you can see what I mean by that :)

So far, Disney has had two chances to impress me. Three, if you count Rebels. the only redeeming things about Rebels is that it has Filoni on it.
The other two times they didn't exactly wow me with a sense of vision.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

Pre TFA I would have said it's a silly rumor. Now WTH knows. They just need to get rid of whoever is involved in the Sequels and put Gareth Edwards in charge.

I didn't really like Finding Dory. Too derivative. Now, Toy Story 1, 2 & 3 brought something new and good each time.

I think it's a reference to Nu-metal. A music genre that's often considered a modern, louder version of heavy metal. But it's watered down, easier to play and lacks soul.

1 and 2 i remember as being quite good. 3 i barely remember...

- - - Updated - - -

Some of the rumors coming out of this film aren't doing it for me. The cat, horse, hunger games planet, and now this... not feeling super confident about it. Obviously, I'll reserve judgement until the film is out, but the initial feeling... I have a bad feeling about this.

People will be begging for uncle george to come back once it's all said and done, i think..

who'd have thought we'd ever say that after how crazy he went? :)

I would love to have George back. He could plan out the stories and be in charge of the design team.

But I think his life would be like that season of breaking bad where walter was a slave for Gus fring.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I thank GL for his accomplishments and birthing the idea of SW. However, good riddance to the guy.

What I've seen with the last 2 SW movies and the first season of Rebels is something I hadn't seen since I first saw SW. As much as I don't like some of the design choices coming out of this movie, the things GL has said about his audiences are pretty dismissive, and the ideas he had for EP7 are pretty weak. You won't see me EVER begging for GL to come back and run this franchise.

I just lost all respect for you man. George, having free reign to do whatever he wanted, gave us the prequels, and ruined what made people love him in the first place. Over 6 hours of awful. And thats just Star Wars, not even counting Indiana Jones.

You know what's scary?

whether you like the prequels or not, they are now close to 20 years old, and have been around long enough for an entire generation to consider that THEIR star wars.

Again, take away the b ad acting, bad casting choices, bad accents, and Jar Jar...as well as edit them a bit better....i think you have the possibilities of 3 good movies.
even in the original movies, they call it a different time of life and it was 'before the dark times'.

I think with george as the idea man, and a guy with vision or at least style, like a dave filoni could put out a more cohesive and fun project than JJ can anyday.
