Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

Well that is a stupid effin reason, if that is the case.
"Ewan McGregor would be the perfect age...." from seeing Michael Douglas to Robert Downey Jr de-aged quite well, you can easily make Ewan what ever age you want.

im praying we see the spirit....

Younger Obi-Wan or CG Alec Guinness Obi-Wan? :p

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I'm betting we may see both... Disney has been playing with this tech since Tron Legacy... even Civil War had young Downey. It's not quite perfected, but improving. Rogue One Tarkin will be interesting to see if he shows up.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

Good lord we need more of her. She might be the coolest looking star wars character ever.

And she was the lamest character ever. She made mace windy look badass.

She was pretty much the Boba Fett of Episode VII. A cool looking mysterious character that just went all wrong and turned into a cheap joke by the end.

I'm hoping she gets some badass redemption

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I'm hoping TFA will have been the motivation we see for how she is in the rest of this trilogy. I think she's gonna have a score to settle. Not bad considering she wasn't even part of the story originally -- that look was going to be Kylo. Then pre-production continued and Kylo developed along a different path. But they liked the look too much to abandon it. Thus, Phasma. I'm fine with not cramming more of her into the already overcrowded TFA.

And I feel that she's now going to be the Boba Fett of Episode V, pursuing the heroes where she will get that redemption.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I know they didn't release one earlier to avoid confusion in marketing two films at once, but could there be an Ep 8 trailer attached to R1?

No. Look towards Celebration next year for the first Ep. 8 teasers.

Well, not even. Pre-release, she was set up to be a "Boba-style" badass - obviously, she had some special skills, history or ruthlessness that earned her the right to wear "non-regulation" armor in the First Order without objection.

So I was frankly surprised they didn't take even a brief, off-hand moment in the film to establish her in that regard. Literally, it would've taken 3 seconds (or less) of screentime to do so - for example, just a single, quick shot in the opening scene on Jakku where she performed some interesting feat or trick (akin to the trooper with the staff who yells "traitor" on Takodana or Han off-handedly shooting the trooper as he walked out of the castle rubble) - then, boom, move on with the film . That's all you'd need to establish that she was someone special to be feared. As it is, and I may be mis-remembering - but I don't think she even fired a single shot in that scene (or elsewhere in the film). She just stood there.

Sure, there was no single "super-duper" action scene with Boba in ESB - but we did have Vader caution him against his tendency toward disintegrating his prey, plus he used cunning to track the Falcon, then surprise-attacked Luke and was able to escape with Han under fire. All of those established him as a threat. Phasma just stood there - so, a real missed opportunity that could've been remedied with one quick shot of her, for example, taking out multiple foes on Jakku with a blaster.

Isn't Celebration a little "late" already, considering how early we had teasers (teasers, mind you, nothing more) for TFA.

We shouldn't keep comparing R1 with TFA. TFA was unique and likely never to be replicated again in regards to the lead up. R1 and all the films to come will likely have a more traditional marketing plan.
