Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Man, that's what I love about guys like JJ. So much of the industry is "It's not show 'friends' it's show BUSINESS" but Abram's always looks out for his people. I love that him and Greg Grunberg have been making movies together since they were kids with a video camera. Seeing Greg show up in project after project... seeing old cast from his other shows show up in his movies, it's awesome.

There are a number of directors like that, notably Kevin Smith and Joss Whedon although with Whedon it's not so much as old friend as just people he's become friends with after working with them. I'd imagine that it's great to be an actor that's really good friends with a big A list director and/or actor with a lot of pull, you know that as long as they're working you'll have a job too.

I remember sitting with my buddy and watching the commentary to "Chasing Amy"... Even back then Kev Smith was very vocal about working with friends. Made me love him more, because that's ALL I wanted to do.

Judd Apatow/Seth Rogen and crew are another group that any casting comes up and it's all about friends... "We could probably get Michael Cera... or Craig Robinson... or...." That's how you want to do it.

I need a director buddy that drags me onto all the great projects, cuz I certainly am nowhere near that place career wise, heh.

Looking forward to spotting Amanda Foreman in Force Awakens! (Meghan from Felicity)

No kidding, and I'm not even an actor. Heck, I'd just settle for being filthy rich and being a part of their entourage, it may not be as good as being filthy rich yourself but it's certainly the next best thing.

Let's not forget Uncle George giving his kids, McCallum, Ben Burtt, Nathan Hamill, John Knoll, Pablo Hidalgo and even Jeremy Bulloch, Anthony Daniels, Ahmed Best and Warwick Davis little cameos in the Prequels. They might not all be exactly his "friends" but it's definitely a similar situation. (Even Ralph McQuarrie was in ESB).

Now that Grunberg's character has been revealed...

I had the pleasure of meeting Greg Grunberg at the last GMX show near Nashville, TN. He spent a considerable amount of time with us in our full scale MF cockpit - it was AMAZING. He was our first official SW cast member in the cockpit. Although he didnt give us ANY EPVII plot info, and depsite our MANY attempts, he did describe what it was like on set and jumping into an XWing. He was so funny telling us how he would continually have to say cut because he was knocking greeblies off the dash or sides of the cockpit. The set designers would rush over, add some glue or tape and then filming would continue. He never saw the actual script - just a few pages of his own lines. I can only imagine it being similar to the SW Blue Ray Behind the Scenes footage of all the cockpit shots.

He went on to tell us that at one point during the shoot JJA took him to the stage where the full scale MF was sitting. Listening to Grunberg tell the story of how JJA took him into the hull, walk down the cockpit corridor and finally into cockpit was like we were there! The hair was standing up with every word he spoke. He told us how, at one point, both of them turned to each other and smiled like kids - they were actually part of the SW universe! The best part was he took pics of our cockpit and sent them directly JJA! That was pretty cool!

I think we're good hands, gang!

I know... No real EPVII info or spoliers but still a great story. I've been DYING to share it with your guys for a while! :)

I would think working with friends is a great way to keep "some" costs down (maybe not much). How many SW fans on this forum would seriously consider being an extra in a SW movie for free? Knowing I would be part of the SW universe / something special would be payment enough for me? And maybe a prop or piece of the MF ;)

I guess a bunch of money changed Harrison Ford's mind from what he said over 4 years ago in an interview:

I'm avoiding story spoilers and am not privy to any sort of inside info, but frankly I've got a feeling we've got that coming our way.

Me too. That is exactly what I think is coming and at least one reason why Harrison may have come back. Other reasons could have been, disappointing his co-stars, money, fans but I think they (the Producers) may have had to promise that they kill off Han.

Not to divulge any spoilers, but I think he has actually mellowed a bit in regards to the character and I am sure the use of Han in TFA was sufficiently compelling to bring him in. And Harrison is very much a team player and supportive of the projects he does regardless of his feelings about the work itself or character. He's old school that way, look how he chastised Shia when he was bad mouthing Crystal Skull.

I know you didn't, but I think it would be great if that were the case. I think Han is going to die personally but would LOVE it if he didn't.
