Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I'm surprised how many people are complaining about the speeder not being "functional". The freaking Jawa land tank wasn't functional. It went about 5mph and there was a few in the pod races that looked just as bad.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I remember seeing the trailer for RotJ WAY back in 82. I saw Chewbacca standing on top of something waving his hands and I thought... "what the heck?" Turns out he was on top of the ATST. My point?

We have our opinions and speculations about the trailer but the reality is... we have NO IDEA what is going to be on screen, much less the plot/story until we see it! I am certainly one for an open discussion and varying degrees of opinion(s)... but I don't think we can honestly demonize the movie based on the trailer... can/should we?

This is just my two cents... I was disappointed with the trailer only because it did exactly what it was supposed to do... TEASE! And now I want MORE! ;)

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Its been stated there are NO OT characters in the teaser trailer. Id even say its safe to assume neither Han/Chewie nor Luke/Leia are piloting the Falcon, not even R2 or 3P0.

Or even R2. And that was a clear choice they made and I think he correct instinct. 88 seconds of new characters with a tease of the familiar Falcon at the end. The next trailer will be even more exciting as it will likely incorporate the Legend characters. But these films are not about them and that is being established.

Not about them? It's my understanding that all 6 previous films were about the Skywalker family. If the next 3 in this saga isn't about them, they shouldn't have called Episode 7. Save the new characters for the stand alone films.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

This could be incorrect, because it is only a rumor, but I thought that the first script was tossed because it focused too much on the new characters? The rumor is that that Ep7 is focused on the main 3 classic characters and it slowly passes the baton off to the new ones.

Has anybody actually made a comment that demonized the movie? The trailer, yes, but the movie, no. I think everyone realizes this is just the teaser and doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of the movie itself. For me, I actually like the trailer, I'd see that movie...but if it wasn't for the lightsaber and the MF, I would not have known it was a SW movie because the style of the camerawork (i.e. shaky cam) isn't recognizable as SW. That's not a judgement about the final product.

Yes, especially Han Solo. But this trilogy is going to be about the journey these new characters embark on.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

"the force awakens"

sounds like someone took the force out on a date. gave the force a super-roofie. it passed out, was taken advantage of, and now has woken up and its pissed.

Well if you think of the super-roofies as midichlorians, then you aren't too far off...

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Hhmm, seems a certain anti-episode 7 thread was deleted. Was it the mods or did the guy finally wake up and see his rant?

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I'm pretty excited about the snowy forest setting. It looks like we might see a good mix of new and old planets and environments

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Come on people, it's Fantasy with a big mother F!! I cannot believe the rant about the saber (don't equate real life stuff with Fantasy:facepalm)...and that goes with every negative comments here (war stuff included). The trailer is what it is: a tease, that's it that's all. The rest will be shown on the screen.
I, personally liked it very much and will eagerly wait for the movie.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Seconded. Although it's not been stated specifically (at least that I've read or heard), I think it's a safe assumption that the desert world is Tatooine; stylistically it's too similar to be anywhere else. Who knows what the others are... And even though it's much more prequel-centric, I'm hoping that we'll see more of Coruscant and its mile high cloud cutters. That's an awesome world...!

I don't know, Tatooine has always been shown as very bright (because of the twin suns). This one doesn't seem that bright to me...more like a normal desert here on Earth

Yeah, the is it or isn't speculation continues. I hope it is as I think Tatooine is an important part of SW I think holds a special place in the Force, but if it's not, then it's a curious choice to make another desert planet that's not Tatooine.

Yeah, I don't know it for certain either. It's just the very direct Tatooine references like the gate house (or whatever it turns out to be) from Ralph McQuarrie's Tatooine artwork that seem convincing. And like Bryan has said, Tatooine is like "home" for Star Wars. It's totally possible, but I just can't imagine this desert world being anything other than Tatooine.
