Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Did they use the Disney castle for the Avengers?

Nope.

No but paramount was the distributor on that one so they wouldn't have...but with star wars it's Disney distributing a lucasfilm production so it probably will have the Disney castle

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I don't really care about that. I mean, it won't make a lick of sense to have the 20th Century Fox logo and fanfare at the start of the films. But I suppose for some people "It's not Star Wars unless it has that!" or whathaveyou. I dunno. Sometimes it seems like for some folks, "It's not Star Wars" unless it's actually the OT.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Detroit had at least 3500 people show up. Not sure on the total as people were still arriving when I was leaving. I was around #300 in line. Then when I was walking out I ran into a film crew who had me do some interviews. So I left around 2 PM. The ballroom had 600 chairs that were in their second round of butts in them, the lobby was five lines deep zig zagging through it and the line was around the building and doubled up and more people were waiting to pull into the parking lot to get in line. So quite a turnout

The casting lady asked me about my union status, checked my contact info was on my resume and mentioned my note of green screen experience but that was it.

Nope.

This is why I don't buy that there has to be a disney intro for SW. Avengers deal was struck after Disney bought Marvel, so if marvel gets to shop around for a distributor, why not LFL?

I think the difference is that paramount already owned the distribution rights for The Avengers which is why Disney let them keep the Paramount logo on the film.

Wow that is quite a turnout! Did they give you a contact form? I hope you get a callback! :)

Thanks! I'm not holding my breath. But then, I went into this pretty sure I wouldn't, but was going to have to try anyway. It is, after all, why I decided to become an actress when I was 6. :) So I didn't get a contact form, but she did read my resume over and mentioned it was good that I had all my contact info and my representation on it.

The news said that there were at least 2000 people there, but there was far more than that. There will be video up on youtube today or tomorrow of the interviews we did with other people hanging out in line.

If that was the case, then I suppose it's possible 20th C. Fox still holds distro rights for Star Wars films. It'd all depend on the contract language, though, and whether Disney wanted to buy them out if they still held it.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Here is the one I have made
You mourn the Disney deal, do you? Why else the funeral music? :p

I think it would be fitting to put on top of the Jedi temple on Coruscant. That is the closest thing to a castle that we have seen in the movies. Then have the fireworks delivered by X-wings as in the ending of ROTJ.

Seriously. If a 20-second long clip that has literally nothing to do with the movie is going to ruin your whole viewing experience, maybe cinema just isn't your gig. But I guess some folks are all about first impressions to set the mood. I get that. Seems a little excessive though. What's next? "Sorry, but it just won't be SW unless they play trailers for Superman and Dawn of the Dead first"

And they own ANH forever. Five and six are Disney's after 2020.

Really?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Yeah, the contract is an obstacle. The thing is, contracts can be negotiated around, and new contracts can be signed. Fox could sign away its right to the films altogether, or do a limited licensing deal. If Disney REALLY wants it all in-house...they can make that happen. Everyone is, after all, always saying how Disney has buckets of cash to spend on this, so there's no reason they could buy Fox out. And there'd be no reason for Fox not to sell, if the number was right.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure Disneybwod bevwillingbto write that check for content that is so old and widely distributed already. They certainly wouldn't just to release the original unaltered OT as that market would be too small to justify the cost. I think Disney is far more interested in investing in the new content they have total control over. As a Disney investor, it would be a tough sell to justify writing a huge check to Fox for 35 year old movies.

I think no matter what happens, we can both say that we auditioned for Star Wars. It was a great experience and stories we'll be able to tell for the rest of our lives! :)
