It's pretty much the only thing that has actually officially been stated about the entire project, what else are we supposed to think?

No, the only "official" statements about the project from both LucasFilm and Disney say nothing of the sort.

Not when they're overdone. Here and there? Ok, sure. But the first Trek film really overdid it. The second one was kind of irritating, too. I realize it's supposed to be a "stylistic choice," but it seems kinda...hacky to me. It doesn't look cool. It looks like someone figured out how to use a basic filter in Photoshop 5 and then went crazy with it.

Totally agree :) when I used photoshop for the first time and found the lens flare feature I too went "a bit" crazy with it :lol

Good luck guys & dolls. I'm going to the Detroit one unless I get too hammered at the bar after the derby bout Saturday. Maybe I can get a part as a hung over secret sith clan member. :D

That's a fanmade R2 - Oliver Steeples is in the pic and this is his droid. An R2 builders council member and a top guy, I might add. I sent him a quick message, here's what he replied:
"Oh that. Me and jj hanging out you mean. They wanted some reference r2 stuff and jj wanted his photo taken, was very lucky"

Whatever that means... will try and squeeze some more info out of him :D
